Thanks to my testers who all reported that my first pattern was easy and error free. I was so happy :c9 to hear that. I hope that everyone enjoys this pattern and thank you everyone here at C'Ville ... you've all been an inspiration of creativity.

Little People

(I think I'm going to have to talk one of my friends into taking my pictures for me from now on seeing how I'm so bad at it ... :lol)

Toy is between 5" and 6" tall seated, depending on how tight you crochet.

Worsted weight yarn in 3 colors (one MC for skin, CC1 for clothes and CC2 for hair - I used scraps of Red Heart SS yarn, and am not sure of the color for the skin, but the others were Aran for the jumper and Coffee for the hair)

Hooks F and G (I crochet tight, so you may want to switch to E and F)

Yarn needle for weaving in ends and embroidering face

Small amounts of yarn or embroidery thread for face

Stitch marker to keep track of rounds

Stitches needed in project - Chain, single crochet, increasing, decreasing and single crocheting through the back loops.

Extra skills needed - magic adjustable ring (for arms and legs), embroidery

This toy is done in continuous spirals.

With the head and body, you will want to leave enough tail at the beginning of the project to weave in and tighten up small holes so that the stuffing doesn't show through.

Head -

With MC and larger hook chain 4. SC in 2nd chain from the hook and next chain. 3 SC in next chain. Do not turn.

On other side of the chain, SC in next chain and 2 SC in last chain (you will have 8 stitches in an oval)

Rd 1 - 2 SC in each stitch around (16 sts)

Rd 2 - *SC in the next stitch, 2 SC in the next stitch* around. (24 sts)

Rd 3 - *SC in the next 2 stitches, 2 SC in the next stitch* around (32 sts)

Rd 4 - SC around (32 sts)

Rd 5 - *SC in the next 3 stitches, 2 SC in the next stitch* around (40 sts)

Rds 6 - 11 - SC around (40 sts)

Switch to smaller hook for remainder of the head.

Rd 12 - *SC in next 3 stitches, dec* around (32 sts)

Rd 13 - SC around (32 sts)

Rd 14 - *SC in the next 2 stitches, dec* around (24 sts)

Rd 15 - *SC in the next stitch, dec* around (16 sts)

Slip stitch into beginning stitch of round, bind off leaving long enough tail for sewing head to body.

Body -

With CC1 and larger hook chain 4. SC in 2nd chain from the hook and next chain. 3 SC in next chain. Do not turn.

On other side of the chain, SC in next chain and 2 SC in last chain (you will have 8 ssts in an oval)

Rd 1 - 2 SC in each stitch around (16 sts)

Rd 2 - *SC in the next stitch, 2 SC in the next stitch* around. (24 sts)

Rd 3 - *SC in the next 2 stitches, 2 SC in the next stitch* around (32 sts)

Rds 4 - 6 - SC around (32 sts)

Rd 7 - *SC in the next 2 stitches, dec* around (24 sts)

Rd 8 - SC around, switch to MC last stitch (24 sts)

Rd 9 - In the back loops only, SC around (24 sts)

Rd 10 - *SC in the next stitch, dec* around (16 sts)

Rd 11 and 12 - SC around

Slip stitch into beginning stitch of round, bind off.

Skirt - (optional)

With CC1, SC into each of the front loops left from Rd 9 of body (24 sts)

Rd 1 - *SC in next 2 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch* around (32 sts)

Rd 2 - *SC in next 3 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch* around (40 sts)

Rds 3 and 4 - SC around.

Slip stitch into beginning stitch of round, bind off.

Or, if you want a jumper then -

With CC1, Chain 8, SC in second chain from hook and across (7 sts)

Chain one, SC across (7 sts)

Chain 17 and bind off.

Attach bottom of rectangle to top of CC1 in front of doll, using the front loops made from Rd 9 of body.

Wrap chain 17 around back of head and attach to the front of the rectangle in top corner.

Arms - (make 2)

Using magic adjustable ring method, SC 6 into ring and tighten.

Rd 1 - 2 SC in each stitch around (12 sts)

Rds 2 - 4 - SC around (12 sts)

Rd 5 - *SC in next 2 stitches, dec* around (9 sts)

Rds 6 and 7 - SC around (9 sts)

(At this point you want to stuff arms - somewhat lightly)

Rd 8 - *SC in next stitch, dec.* around (6 sts)

Do not stuff into the last round. This gives the arms the ability to move and hug.

Slip stitch into beginning stitch of round, bind off leaving enough tail to sew arms to body.

Legs - (make 2)

Using magic adjustable ring method, SC 6 into ring and tighten.

Rd 1 - 2 SC in each stitch around (12 sts)

Rd 2 - *SC in next 3 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch* around (15 sts)

Rd 3 - In back loops only, SC around (15 sts)

Rds 4 and 5 - SC around (15 sts)

Rd 6 - *SC in next stitch, dec* around (10 sts)

Slip stitch into beginning stitch of round, bind off leaving enough tail to sew legs to body. Stuff legs.

Assembly

Stuff body well.

Before stuffing head, use CC2 to create hair for doll. Cut CC2 into equal lengths approximately twice the length you want the hair to be, and attach to head. You may do this by folding the strands in half and, using the smaller crochet hook, pulling the hair through the holes in the head and then pulling the loose ends through the loop.If you choose, you may also at this time embroider eyes and mouth onto face of doll.

Line up head and body so that the ovals match and using tail sew head to body. Sew arms onto body, and sew legs onto body in sitting position.
