felting a stuffie

I know how to felt some items, namely purses, but I don't know how to go about doing a stuffed animal.

Do you felt first, then stuff ~ or finish the animal completely with eyes and everything then felt?

 

Any help or advice would be great

Felt it first . you can baste the opening closed with some scrap cotton yarn. Then when you take it out of the washer, or whichever way you do it, take out the cotton yarn open the whole and temporarily stuff the toy so when it dries it will dry in the shape that you wanted it to be.

Also I forgot to mention that you probably should keep all pieces separate i.e. legs ears arms etc and attach them after felting because when the pieces felt they felt unevenly and they could end up in places you didnt want them

After a few disasters when I stuffed and then felted or felted then stuffed, I decided to try both. So I felt the item (usually a bear) a little bit and then stuff and then felt again.
