What a great job on the hat, Holly! That is so cute, and I love that pinkish red one. I'd seen that sellers stuff before but hadn't ordered. With the good recommendation, I may just have to now! <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/thumbsup.gif" />

oh, my vic will be 2 on thursday

here's an update from Jordan's dad:

I know everyone is anxious to hear about our meeting with Cook Children's Hospital this weekend. I'll give you the good news first. They do have several umbilical cord blood matches for Jordan. The one we will use has a very large count of stem cells. Preliminary testing is a 5 out of 6 match. They took some blood samples from Jordan to double check to make sure how close of a match it is. We should know today or tomorrow exactly how perfect it is. This means that she will only need to stay in the hospital for a couple of weeks and stay in Fort Worth for three months for observations when they do the transplant. By using cord blood, there is less chance of graft-verses-host disease. Now for the scary news. Jordan has a window of 6 months that she can not relapse out of remission. If she does there is nothing else they can do for her, which means she won't make it. After the 6 months, if she relapses, they can do another transplant. All though the second transplant has a much less successful rate. The longer she goes without relapse the better chance she has. We are scheduled for the next two weeks to prepare Jordan to be shipped to Fort Worth. She will have to have surgery for her teeth, sinuses, and replace her catheter. They will not have to give her any more treatments because they don't want to bring her immune system down any further. The transplant team will not have to give her radiation either, because she is showing signs of mental effects from the first time they gave her radiation. My family will head to Fort Worth probably the first or second week of August and I will travel there on weekends. Thank you for all your prayers and continued support. We will really need them in the coming months. If you have any other questions please feel free to call me or come by.

  • 4 weeks later...

this is an email from Jordan's dad:

I have an update on Jordan. I think most of the information is pretty accurate except for some dates that might change. All of Jordan's test came back good except for her renal exam. The exam showed some gall stones in her gall bladder. The stones are what was causing Jordan to be septic. On the 16th, next Monday, they are going to do surgery to remove her gall bladder and replace her double lumen central line with a triple lumen and will keep her overnight for observation. Then on the 23rd, the following Monday, the doctors are going to admit Jordan into the hospital to start the chemo and possibly oral radiation to kill off her bone morrow. Then possibly do the transplant on September 1st. Now all these dates are dependant upon Jordan's body and how it reacts with everything they are planning to do to her. Mom is holding on pretty well but is in unfamiliar territory, so she is a little on edge. Can't possibly imagine why. From my family to all of yours, thank you for your continued support and care. God bless!

Thanks for the update Rebecca, I was wondering how she was doing. Poor baby, having to have her GB out on top of everything else <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/crying.gif" />

We'll keep her in our thoughts!!!!

Hey ladies - what about doing something for Jordan's mom? I'm thinking basic stuff here, an afghan for her, something easy like 12" granny squares. We each could do a couple, a few squares, same color scheme and pattern so it would look nice. One of us could join them together when they are done, I'll even volunteer if you don't mind having them whipstitched together. It's a thought, feel free to shoot it down or suggest something else. She's away from home in a strange city in a super stressful situation, we could send it to Jordan's dad for him to take to her maybe. A gift from him and all of us, too? :thinking1

What a GREAT idea!! You know moms gotta be more stressed than the child herself! I will volunteer to attach the squares and do the border, unless you are really looking forward to doing it Julie. I can also attach a hang tag with everyone's names (and emails possibly too?) who participated in making the afghan for her.

I vote for caron simply soft yarn - it's cheap and very soft. Much better than RH in my opinion.

i'm in!! i tear up everytime i think of how she must be feeling - and i look at my 4 precious, perfectly healthy babies and know how lucky i am

i would LOVE to do something for her. thank you for the suggestion!

what about more "mom-ish" colors - maybe a rose and cream?? just a thought.

anyone found a good sq yet? 12 in, right?

Goodie, I'm glad everyone likes the idea! :cloud9 Rose and cream sounds good to me, and Chelle, if you want to join the squares you certainly can. I like your method of joining too. I don't mind to whipstitch them together, but I know not everybody likes that method. I also figured since I came up with the idea, I should at least offer. :lol I'm going to Wal-Mart this morning, oh joy of all joys, and I'll check out the Caron to see what the options might be.

It's hard to tell from the little swatch, but how about the Paisley Print in the bottom right corner?

I guess it would depend how it looks in person & if the stores have it in stock.

I know thoughts are divided on Red Heart, but I'm working on a blanket in their "Ocean" varigated color which could fit the bill as well.

I'll follow the crowd on the square pattern, I've never done a square so I wouldn't know how to pick one.
