Favorite Sweater Pattern

Recommended Posts

If you've never made a sweater, a good one to learn on is Dot Matthew's sweater pattern.

I had never made an actual cardigan with sleeves before I used her pattern...I'd made a vest or two, but never a real cardigan. Dot's pattern was so incredibly easy! I've got another sweater that I'm still working on from that pattern, only reason I didnt finish it is because I had a health problem last year and I put it aside for a bit.

Here's a picture of my mom wearing the sweater I made for her from Dot's pattern. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v163/ErinLindsey/?action=view&current=PB140026.jpg

I've eyed that sweater before, but I can't get fingering weight yarn here. What is comparable to? Are you serious about a CAL? I'd really like to try a sweater off of that Drops Design/Garnstudio website. I'm just nervous about having to translate abbreviations and making sure I find the right yarn weight, but their patterns are so cute. Maybe that would be a good one for me to do a CAL on. I don't know how to set up a CAL. Does it take a lot of time to maintain a CAL?

Or this one?

Or maybe even this one?

A variety of sweaters, vests, etc can be found in Jane Snedden Peevers books. Check your library. you can find a lot of great books there too.

I have to agree on the Melissa Leapman sweaters I found one of her sweater books recently at a local book store for $8.95 on sale and have a few picked out to start. There's a pretty sweater in the back of Cool Crochet that I modified and it's my favorite one to wear....

I have both of Jane's book and they are wonderful. they are all so orginal and well written. I'm in the process of making swatches of all the pattern stitches. I'd love to make all of the sweaters in her books.

Yammy,

Is this sweater the one named "Toni" in Cool Crochet? What yarn did you use. Your's looks less "stiff" than Toni, and I like the neckline a lot.

And yes, I agree with Melissa Leapman's books having great sweaters. I have 2 of her sweater books, Cool Crochet and Crochet With Style. I'm currently working on "Nubby Oversized Cardigan" from Crochet With Style. It is somewhat labor intensive with the color changes, but the directions are very clear, and it's coming along nicely.

The Drops Design Website is to die for. There sweaters are so beautiful...Just make sure that if they are written in British terms to change them to US terms. They have the translation on their site too....:cheer
