Hufflepuff-inspired arm warmers/fingerless mitss

I made a pair of arm warmers/fingerless mitts in the Hufflepuff House colors. Because I'll be wearing them at work, I chose to have the hand portion black (instead of yellow) because I was afraid the yellow would look dirty quicker.

The great thing with this pattern is they don't have to be stripped. This is actually my second pair. The first pair was in WalMart blue for my daughter (she works in their distribution center where there's no heat or air conditioning)

I started with this pattern. Unfortunately the hand portion was too wide for my hand (I have long, thin hands), the thumb part didn't seem right to me, and the hand portion seemed just a tad short so I changed the pattern. I also added a thumb.

My changes begin on row 29: sc 28 (not 36 as stated in the pattern)

rows 30-37: sc even, do not increase on any row

row 38: to make the opening for the thumb, ch 6, sk 6 ch

rows 39-44: sc even; end off

For the thumb (abbreviated instructions):

working in rounds

row 1: sc in each st so that there are 14 sc total

row 2: work even

row 3: dec, sc in next 5, dec, sc to end -- 12 sc

row 4: dec, sec in next 4, dec, sc to end -- 10 sc

depending on the width & length of your thumb, you may want to work a 5th row with only 1 dec instead of 2 dec
