i was originally going to use snap closures but i got too lazy to sew those on when i saw my hot glue gun and a pile of velcro i had laying around..

Wow, this is just fabulous!! I had to show my boyfriend this because he loves transformers. He says you should definitely make a version 2, and if you do, it needs to be megatron. You really did a spectacular job on this. I really wish I was creative enough to make toys like this.
