Baby Yarn for Booties

I've never made anything for babies so I don't have experience with the yarn used. My husband told a women he works with that I would make booties for her baby that she will be having and her family members who are having children. What is the best baby yarn to use that isn't a one pounder and has a variety of colors. I don't want a huge skein if all i will make is baby booties, i don't think they want anything else but booties. Suggestions? Thank you very much for the help.

i like caron simply soft for the baby hats and booties i make, they have nice pale colors too. good luck making them

I like the Bernat Cotton Tots, a 100% cotton baby yarn in pastel colors. I love cotton -- no fibers for baby to breathe in and items gets softer with washing. The balls are not huge; definitely enough for a couple pairs of booties, but not so much you'll have a ton left over.
