Hawaiian baby boy's nursery theme - need ideas HELP!!

Recommended Posts

So, my daughter's speech therapist is now pregnant (her physical therapist and occupational therapist have both had babies in the past year and no, I don't drink out of the water fountain there :lol ), and has told me that she and her husband have picked a "surfboard, hula girl, Hawaiian" theme for the nursery.

Which totally means the baby pastel Baby Clouds starghan I was making for her is NOT going to match. I have a friend having a baby that it will be good for, though, so no worries there. It will have a home.

Anyway, I'm thinking of using Caron SS Brites to make a baby blanket for Miss Laura's boy, but I can't seem to find any "surfer" patterns.

Does anyone know of any?

I'm also going to post this in Seeking Patterns, but I know this forum gets tons of traffic, so I thought I'd ask here, too. :devil

I would LOVE to do that theme for my next baby! I was thinking a blanket with a surf board on it. Maybe graph it? Some stuffed toys of underwater creatures. I wanted to make my own mobile for my baby. I was thinking of some sea horses, palm trees, bright fish, dolphins, octopus, and if it's a boy maybe a sail boat. It's just a lot of thoughts running through my head right now. Sorry about my rambling.

What you described was my sister's theme to-the-T!

The first of these is a chart for a Hawaiian-style block done in filet. The second is a review of a book on making Hawaiian leis in crochet. Aloha!

You could always just do any pattern made with greens, browns, yellows, etc. Hawaiin theme colors.

My daughter's birth mom sent me the safari theme they are using in her little brother's room and I"m making a Round Ripple in the colors they are using.

I like the surfboard idea. Maybe instead a surfboard on the afghan, you could do one shaped like a surfboard? :P

Carla - you amaze me. I've been looking for a Hawaiian crochet quilt and found patterns I like but all in quilts.

If you're a real Hawaiian the Kukui is awesome. Especially for a boy they are the nuts they use for men's lei's. (My daughter lives in HNL)

Oh, is there a rule about cross posting? I wasn't aware or I forgot. My apologies.

I like the idea of graphed squares like the Desert Oasis afghan. I'll have to mull that over.

Or just using the colors, too. Maybe in a wavy ripple? I could applique a surfboard or something...

So many good ideas.

You know, threads get lost. I am sure there are a lot of threads that have been duplicated.

I read those post thinking two different things. One I assumed was searching for patterns, the other I thought she wanted basic ideas of what else could be cone. I didn't know they were duplicate post as i only noticed this one today. Not very observant am I:think
