Spanish crochet language

cupcake

Question

This might seem like an odd request but here goes.

As some of you are aware I sell patterns on ETSY. A lady in Spain bought one of my patterns (which wasnt an easy thing to do as she has no English and I have no spanish and she seemed very unfamiliar with Paypal etc) :think

Any hows I sent her the patterns in good faith, which she cant understand. I did try to explain to her that I only had Australian /American terms. I am very keen to help this lady as I feel her frustration. She is desperate ( for whatever reason) to make a kangaroo.

She has a translater helping her, but I wondered if someone out there was able to give me in Spanish what the equivalent crochet terms are.

Here is her message: (I think she writes in Spanish then uses a program to convert to English)

"Hello, I am *****, an españa girl.He/she buys you some patterns of some kangaroos and I cannot translate them with the translator that I have, he/she doesn't leave me.I make it with the translator because me not you English.As I have to translate it by hand, could you send Me the abbreviations? Do your patterns also interest me, but I can translate them then, do I sit down it but doesn't it rot them to you to buy. Your you know some way to translate them? If you know it, tell it to me."

Now my problem is I think in Australian British terms, then translate to American USA terms.

I have no idea where Spanish fits into the language. Do they use USA or British, or is this different all together?

I found this reference: http://members.tripod.com/TheCrochetNetwork1/crochetuniversity/foreigncrochet.html

Is there anything else I should know?

Can someone please advise me on what I should do here? I really dont want to cause her any more angst and would appreciate any help.

Many Thanks as this has me puzzled. :think

I would suggest that you send her a copy of the pattern WITHOUT abbreviations. Also, include the stitch instruction. In other words, sc = single crochet, insert hook in top two chains etc etc

Then I would have her send correspondence in Spanish, her own language, and you translate them (or have someone who speaks Spanish and crochets translate them). My daughter is familiar with Spanish though she doesn't speak it. She took two years in school and has a natural inclination towards languages. She said she would be happy to try and translate it for you. However, she is getting married on Friday, so it would have to be today or tomorrow or week after she gets back from honeymoon.

There are probably people here at Crochetville who speak Spanish who could help. Reason I suggest this is because her translation program is obviously not getting the job done.

My daughter gave me this to pass on if it helps.

ch = cadenta (cad)

sc = punto bajo (pb)

dc = punto alto doble (pad)

hdc = punto alto (pa)

tr = punto alto triple (pat)

sl st = punto enano (pe)
