Chunky or Bulky yarn?

Hi everyone!

 

I have a quick question. I'd like to buy some chunky or bulky yarn. Problem is, I can't figure out which is thicker.

So, I ask ye fellow crocheters. What's the verdict?

I'd like to work with the thickest fiber possible, but it also needs to be cost-effective. I know, I've got Colinette taste, but a Red Heart budget. Please help!

the nicest cost effective stuff i have used lately is bernat softee chunky .. it s pretty thick..

 

and I think I paid about $1.47 a ball for it

If you go to coatsandclark.com you can find out what types of Red Heart there are. I know there is one now that is Super bulky.

I also like light and lofty .. it turns out nice too and works up fast..

try the Red Heart Grande. It is a bulky yarn (bigger than chunky) and it is only 1.99 at my hobby lobby. On a visit to my lys a few weeks ago i asked and was told that 2 sport weight yarns carried together equaled a chunky weight yarn and that 2 worsted weight yarns carried together equaled a bulky weight yarn. I don't know how accurate this is but maybe it will help.:read

is light and lofty close to Lion Brand homespun? I'm looking for an alternative to Homespun. (just for variety)

light and lofty is... hmm how can i say it.. more loopy? than homespun and a bit more bulky.. but i think gives a nice result.. i would think it would be closer to the boucle than the homespun..

i just made a jacket out of the rh grande --wish it were only 1.99 here! it's 3.49/skein at my hobby lobby!!
