Different Chenilles?

HollyM

Recommended Posts

I'm scoping out some bulk/cone chenilles. What is the difference between acrylic, rayon and olefin? Does one have better/worse durability or cleaning requirements?

Any other terms I should know about?

Thanks!

Holly

It does! Thanks!

I have her in my favorite sellers and there are a few cones I'm scoping out

What I want to do is try to make something like the Shearling Suede blanket from Simply Creative Crochet magazine. It calls for 20 balls of Berroco Suede, which around here goes for about $10 a ball I thought I could use a nice tan chenille and either a cream chenille for the trim or something like Bernat Boucle and get something that resembles it.

I just got a 5lb 4 oz cone of Rayon Chenille from Johns-Trading-Post

It is really hard to imagine what that much yarn looks like until it's in your hands lol!

Anyway, it's going to be perfect for the faux sheerling throw from BH&G Simply Creative Crochet. I'm pairing it up with some cream Bernat Illusions. I'm estimating it's going to cost $20 for the whole thing instead of $200+ that it would cost for the Berrocco Suede & Plush they call for It's going to be an after Christmas project, but I couldn't resist making a little swatch just to see if I like the combo. I do!

I don't have anything to do with the swatch, maybe it would make a good lizzard blanket

Hehehhe, that's for you Rebecca

I think I'll make that picture the screensaver on DH's computer, he'll be so happy to see me emasculating his macho pet

Holly you are a hoot!!! :rofl

Thanks for making me smile! and I think that's a great idea on the throw, I have a friend who was wanting to make it until she realized how pricey the berroco is. I'll have to pass along your idea with the chennille. I think it looks great!! Probably softer as well. :day

Hehehehe, thanks ladies!

I sent the 2nd picture to a friend (who is neither a crochet or a lizzard person) and she asked what's next, a lizzard santa suit? Hmmm, does that sound like a challenge to you?????

LOL Holly.

This reminds me of someone that rides the train with me. She is also a crocheter (is that a word?). She works for attorneys, and one of the attorneys has a sculpture (Roman Emporer or some such) in his office. The employees take turns making hats, props, etc for this sculpture. I have been enlisted several times to contribute scraps of yarn for hats and feather boas. My favorite just happens to BE red TLC Amore with white fun fur! a Santa hat! hahaha

Thanks for making me smile in the middle of my day. :D!
