Hello from England!

Hello! I'm Kiri and I'm a relatively new crochet-er. I taught myself to knit about 18 months ago but generally found it too slow and too awkward, and just not as fun as I'd hoped... So I then taught myself to crochet in around october, I guess? I'm really pleased I have, although I'm still a bit on the slow side... :D

So hello to everybody, and how are you?

Hey Jen! Essex, huh? I'm an Essex girl too! I'm from Colchester, but I'm living in Ipswich now...

This forum looks great, I've been looking for something like this since I started to crochet!

Thanks MyissaG and Loopy1!

Do people post that frequently in the other forums? I put something in the fulling and felting one... Where're the busiest bits? I live on my own, in a relatively new town to me, as I'm a student nurse and I moved areas to go to school, and I'm in a weird age apparently, I'm either much younger or much older than everyone else in school, so I guess I don't really socialise that much!!!

:welcome from Nebraska! You will find a lot of support here and great ideas for projects. My husband was stationed at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk and we lived there for 4 years...loved it and miss it. It does take a bit of time to get settled in a new place...hang in there!

Oh yeah?! I'm pretty near Mildenhall, I'm in Ipswich. I'm not too worried about the lack of social life to be honest, I have so much to do around school, so, I guess for three years I have more important things to think about!

Awh you miss here. Yeah, Suffolk's not bad I guess, so long as you like quiet... :D

We lived near newmarket, so close to Cambridge and that was great! I liked living in a quiet village, but still have the ability to jump on the train and go anywhere easily. I miss a lot of things about England, but probably one of the biggest is the Cadburys. In the US, the Hersheys company has purchased the right to use the name, but it can't compare to the real thing! Oh and I miss that mint aero:manyheart ...can you see a pattern forming here...definitely a chocolate addiction!

hehe awh! well maybe if I stick around on here (I intend to!) I'll send you some chocolate haha. I miss Reese's Pieces, I'm vegan so I can't eat them (although my veganism doesn't include wool :$ I'm so bad really haha!)

:cheer :cheer Welcome damekiri:cheer :cheer

I guess you know that there is a real Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, the NZ Opera singer who is based in London England.

Welcome from the home of this Dame Kiri.

I am going to hear Dame Kiri sing, with the NZ Symphony Orchestra, on the 12th of April, so if I get to speak with her, I will tell her you said hello.:lol

My kids gave me tickets for my Birthday and I have never been to anything like this, in all of my 65yrs so it will be a nice experience.

Mind you, I would really rather go to a country music concert but maybe it is time to broaden my horizons.

Welcome again from down here in NZ.

Have fun.

Colleen.:hug

:D Yes I do know about her, she's my namesake. My friend's 7 year old daughter has *always* called me Dame Kiri, just because of that. My name is really Kiri, just as a nickname I've somehow accumulated the "dame" part. Even when she was around 4 or 5 my friend's little girl would answer the phone and you could hear her say "mummy it's Dame Kiri Te Kanawa on the phone for you". It's ever so funny really.

I think seeing her would be lovely. I think she's a fabulous soprano. Unfortunately I can't emulate her because I'm an alto. I can just about reach mezzo, but that's about it haha! But surely say hello from me if you meet her :lol It sounds as though it should be a good night!
