Angora?

I just found out one of my best friends knows someone that spins her own Angora thread and yarn.. I"m going to check into this and find out more, but don't recall seeing this advertised in other places I've looked for specialty yarns...

anyone ever heard of or worked with Angora?

My husband told me that he had an Aunt that owned a rabbitry and she used to sell their hair (fur?) to people that made their own yarn. I've never worked with it, but it's supposed to be incredibly soft and really expensive!

I've heard of people knitting with it, but I've never talked to anyone that has crocheted with it.

its super soft and super wonderful and expensive.. so if you can get some for a good price go for it .. i dont think you will be disappointed..

the best i have found here is like 15 an ounce.. that is not alot of yarn .... i am not willing to pay that.. but if i could find it for less i would.. it would make a wonderful accent.. small scarf.. small mobius.. or trim on mittens and gloves.. i have used it in the past ... just havent found it here reasonable

I think the angora she has she gets from angora goats? :? I know they had rabbits at one time, but she also raises goats

(if there is no such thing as an angora goat please let me bask in my ignorance in solitude.. I'll figure it out sooner or later :rotfl )

Now.. where is JJ hiding.. hmm.... :thinking1

i CANT wait to gethome.. i have plans.. i am getting miniature sheep.. gonna build a climate controlled hobby shed out back.. so i can have an angora rabbit.. SP refused to let me have a goat.. thats ok though he doesnt refuse me much.. i understand his reason.. when he went thru Medic school for the ARmy they had to work on goats and there were large herds every where.. and when i say large i mean 300 goats at a time.. and he was around this for a couple years so I dont blame him for not wanting one... maybe if I explain i could spin cashmere.. he might change his mind..

anyway i AM getting the sheep and the rabbits..

hahaha Elizabeth :)

Actually he's probably complaining about the smell of goats moreso than anything else.. Boer goats don't have that "goaty" smell to them at all.. mine smell sweet like my horses do.. course you have to keep their pen cleaned.. manure is manure and will stink if left too long.. but the goats themselves don't stink. Only boer billy goats smell.. not the wethers and nannies :) And my wether has a full neck of cashmere.... now if I can just figure out how to harvest it off him :bad

i think that is probably what he doesnt like.. and of course.. he goes to third world countries and works on peoples animals as well as the people .. because sometimes their animals are their only source of income.. so you can imagine the smell..

i really only want like one little goat.. maybe i can slide it in and he wont notice.. LOL.. it can live with my little sheep ....how big do those goats get?

they get as big as other goats get, but mine have more bulk to them because they are specifically meat goats as opposed to dairy goats or just brush goats... but the lack of the smell is the best thing.. even nannies of other sorts smell... I can hug my bottle baby who now weighs about 120 i think and don't get Eau De Goatee all over me :hee

arent they? i love how they look like they are smiling all the time

that is why i have to have at least TWO!

LOL

it says i can have ten of those little guys on an acre.. which is what I have at home.. but dont think I want my whole yard as sheep pasture.. so I will fence the back half.. .. i want at least 2 maybe 4 and if i get a goat maybe just 2 sheep and one goat .. and some rabbits.. that would be enough to keep me busy i am sure !!
