Lion Brand Chenille Thick 'n Quick - washing?

Hi all,

 

I was just wondering if *any* brave soul out there has tried running this yarn through the washing machine on a delicate cycle before? The label says "hand wash only", and I know you can't dry chenille in the dryer, but do you think I could run it through a delicate cycle of the washing machine on cold, and then lay it out to dry?

 

Just curious - I'm working on a chenille afghan in this yarn for a gift next year (my dad), and I know my mom would appreciate being able to just wash it in the machine, even though it will need to air dry, so I'll try it with a small swatch if no one else has, but I figured I'd ask before potentially ruining a bit of expensive yarn... ;-)
