help with ripple

Question

Okay,

I am trying really hard to make a ripple afghan, beginning with say 250 chains, I am just beginning to crotchet and keep ending up having to start this thing over!!!! UGH!!!!!

Okay, I begin with 250 chains, then DC into 3rd chain from hook, then 4 more DC, then sk 2 ch, then 3DC in next chain, repeating all of this until I end the row with DC in the last 6. Next I turn then ch 3

On row 2 I go in the 3rd chain from hook, right?

Someone help, Please!!!!!!

I am determined to get this thing right, help me figure out what I'm doing wrong, even if someone can tell me if I need to change my number of chains, if that is the problem. Help!!!!!

Every time I start a straight ripple afghan, I always start from the 2nd chain from the hook, & *DC 6-one in each chain, Dc 3 in the next stitch(mountain), DC 6-one in each chain, skip 3 (valley)*

When I tried to making the "valley", before the "mountain, I always have had trouble, so I gave up following a pattern, if it said to make the valley, before the mountain:think
