*pics added* wool ID questions

im trying to figure out what the names are..

i can see what ones are homespun, but there is regular looking yarn homespun, and then a lumpy kind that goes from skinny to thick.

Then there are "cakes" of wool that feel like tweed..

they are just ever so slightly rough.

the last item is some kind of wool that hasnt been spun, its just in a big long lump..

maybe someone can help me figure out what these different types of yarn are called? :) thanks

The "cakes" ( i think these would be to itchy to make a garment, so i dont knwo what they are for)

thanks for any help :)

" P.S- since i have been messing with this yarn, ive gotten itchy and wheezy so i think its safe to say im allergic! there is also alot of mohair so it could be that, but either way, i plan on putting the whole lot on ebay when im done getting all the info together, so any info you can give me will help alot "

You should post a piture of the yarn and maybe one of the yarn experts on this site will be able to look at it and give you and idea of what you have. The only wool I have ever used is Patons.

The gray unspun stuff is roving. It can be used as it is for either wet felting or needle felting (dry). It could be dyed different colors. Or, it could be spun into yarn. If you do dolls, it probably would make nice doll hair.

You have some really pretty colors there. The yarn that feels rough.... often a rough feeling yarn will felt up really nicely and take the roughness out of it. The self striping Noro Kureyon is really scratchy, but very soft after felting. If you're feeling adventurous, try doing up a swatch and felting it. It would make nice bags.

Enjoy it!

thanks for that info.. i was worried the scratchy yarn was "poo poo".

i would be adventurous and try felting, but i dont think my wheezing lungs can take it lol

dose that type of yarn have a name, or would it be described as felting yarn?
