The best yarn for a baby blanket?

I'm torn between the desire to make a beautiful blanket and practical at the same time (wahable and that will last as long as possible and will look good after washing). The variety of good colors is the must. Does that kind of yarn actually exists?

I've used Simply Soft for baby blankets, because it's acrylic (therefore washable and durable), and really soft. I also really like Bernat Baby Coordinates (also acrylic), and TLC Baby (another acrylic). I used acrylics because I donate to Project Linus, and that's what they want.

All of these lines are soft and durable, and have a wonderful selection of colors (and to be honest, I don't often like to use pastels for baby blankets, I really like to use bold colors).

I use TLC Essentials when making baby blankets. It's a ww that is soft, durable, and very pretty. Comes in many different colors.

I know it also depends on the climate that you live in. You need a lighter weight yarn when living in a warm climate verses a heavier yarn when living in a colder climate, like Chicago area.

Just something to keep in mine when picking out yarn.

I also like Bernat's Baby Coordinates Sweet Stripes. It makes some really interesting blankets. I have used it double stranded and it is really cool.

Have fun making blankets.

I really love Wendy Peter Pan yarn. It's acrylic and softer than anything else I've run across. Unfortunately, it's not exactly cheap (although it's not sky high either).

You can see it here: http://www.pagelinx.com/cgi-shopper/loadpage.cgi/smileysyarns/ezshopper?user_id=id&file=iriot.htm

(smiley's has a 40.00 minimum order)

I hope those links work.. if not smileys is at http://www.smileysyarns.com and then click on Internet Sale.. then scroll down to the 2.50 yarn section and choose the peterpan link. I've ordered from Smileys and gotten great service.

the other site's main link is at http://www.yarnware.com (I've never ordered from them) and then choose yarn, then the Wendy link.

Do you have any pics of a double strand Sweet Stripes blanket? I've only seen ones with single strand.
