Wool Questions

I was about to order some wool from patternworks, then I realized there are so many types of wool.

I am going to make some felted bags. Is there a better type of wool to felt with? Does it have to be 100 wool? Can I use a 95% wool type?

Have you ordered from patternworks ever? This will be my 1st time; they have a nice selection of wool.

Thanks

Mare

To felt it must be wool or wool blend that is NOT superwash. Meaning some wools are preshrunk or treated so the felting process is lost on them.

As for a blend, the higher the wool content the better it will felt. Just remember that the content that is not wool will not felt creating a more textured surface because the added fiber will not shrink and cause ripples or buldges.

You can also use non wool yarn as a carryalong with the wool (such as fun fur or eyelash) to achieve an interesting texture. The wool will felt and shrink around the non-wool fiber.
