Blue Star Afghan CAL

As for the yarn, yes burgandy! I think that would look amazing. Well whenever you get a chance go pet the yarn and decide what colors you're using let us see! =)

I'll do that! I'm going to install the software for our new digital camera on my laptop so I can eliminate the middleman (DH:manyheart )....

CLIP OUT YARN?!?! What, are they insane? The more I think about this afghan, the more I think I might have to forego it. It's not big enough (King) and I don't have the amount of yarn I need. I might do it EVENTUALLY, but that's not the right afghan for my bed... yet.

I will be watching you ladies to see what you're doing!

:eek

I have started the squares and was wondering for those that have also started, when you do granny block 4 are you going to do what it says and cut out the darker part of the varigated so the square overall will look lighter.

I tried this and its a very annoying thing to do.

:eek :eek :eek :eek Not in this lifetime!!!! I am not cutting pieces out of my:yarn ! I hate knots and I love my verigated color I think it will look good.

I would send a pictire of my yarn but don't know how and on my thread says I am not alloud attachments??? I will send to someone else if they want to post for me?????

Tracey that is so nice of you to make this for your assistant. Your not being long winded.:hug

Lyn have you started the centre. I did the star and Im stuck on row 4.:think

Judi the burgundy colors will look great. We will all be doing different colors, I cant wait to see everyones as we progress.

Peni isnt that ridiculous that you cut out the dark part of the varigated. I think thats why you need 14oz of it. As far as I can see you only make 112 squares in the varigated and thats all you use it for unless Im mistaken.

Wendy, Yes sorry I got caught up in crocheting and completely forgot I was going to post about Round 4.

I am at the assembly of the 8 9-patches to the center right now.

When it came to round 4, I just went along until it got to the end, I don't know why it says to do it 6 times. Its an 8 point star so you would need to do it 7 times.

I just looked at the instructions it says "6 times MORE" so you count the first time you did it and then those 6 more, that with the first part of instructions before the *, should give you 8 total.

I am really sorry I did not respond sooner, I completely spaced it...furiously crocheting as I was.

I have 2 squares left to join to the center, and man does my crocheting hand HURT :laughroll

I can't put it down though till those are joined.

Good luck on the rest of the center, Wendy

about clipping out the varigated?? :think What. What are you supposed to do. Cut certain colors out of your varigated and not use it?? :eek is that what it is saying. Man. That is silly I think. I will have to wait and read the pattern. Still have not gotten my book for this one yet. I am very anxious to get it and get something started here.

Lyn - thats ok. I had started the star first but when i got stuck on that row I decided to do the granny blocks instead. I will have a look at it again today and see if I can get it right. The only problem I have with the row 4 is that it says to ch1 then go into the next ch space but that ch space is 3 dcs away. very strange. I will redo it and see if I can get it to work. Sounds like your getting heaps done on yours. well done.

Diane - yep it says to do that. I guess if you have a light varigated you dont have to worry about the effect. But in my case my varigated has very dark bits of yarn. Everyone has said it looks great. thanks for that.. so I will just continue as normal. How long before you get your book. I was lucky it only took 9 days to get here from America. Thanks Mr Postman.

Wendy - Yah that next chain space you're going to be putting 3 dc's, ch2, 3 dc's so they kind of slant towards the beginning ch1. It worked out alright for me when I did it.

Here is a pic of everything I have done and all put together AND all ends weaved in too!

I'll be taking a short break for a day or two I think, my hand is KILLING me :hook

When I do a granny square or a granny configuration, I am always going past 3dc to get to the space for my next 3dc grouping.

I have no idea what the pattern (fully) says but that caught my eye as being ususal in a granny situation. If this is not relevent, just ignore me and I go away... eventually :wlol

Darski - Yah me too but it is usually a 3dc group or at least the height of a DC (ex. chain 3) that is going past those 3 dc's so, a chain one going that distance IS a little strange, to me at least. It does work though and it looked alright to me. Just haven't seen that before (a ch1 going past 3 dc's)

Krystal the pattern only calls for 14 oz of varigated and from what I can see you only do 112 little squares of it. Im pretty sure you will have enough.

Lyn that just looks amazing. The colors really go well together:yay :clap

You have done heaps no wonder your hands are hurting.

What do you think of these? I was going to use the cornmeal (yellow) instead of the "blue" - color A. The rest would be as they are supposed to.

I'm not a really big fan of yellow, but my current bedspread has some in it, and it looks cute. I'd really rather have ALL blue, but my room is more of a slate blue, and there's only light and dark in that shade - no middle ground. I couldn't think of another color in there, except a rose - and I really hate pink. :D I'd rather have yellow.

Any other accent color ideas?

Oh, and I am switching the order of the outside squares if I do this. I would make the N-E-S-W points bordered by the darker squares and the NE-NW-SE-SW points bordered by the lighter squares. As it stands, it looks lopsided to me.

Krystal, I really like the cornmeal with that mix.

I like that Cornmeal colour myself... it has a certain je ne sais quoit that I like. I used it in my Cathedral window and I hope I have some left when that is done.

Darski - I think that we were posting at the same time when I posted that =)

Everyone - Thanks so much for the compliments, I am sooo proud of it hehe I am DETERMINED to finish this one, I swear!! I gotta keep motivated, and so far its going great. I do have a confession though, I HATE all those small squares lol but, I better get used to them because there are several "quilt" afghans that I am DYING to make.

Krystal - I absolutely LOVE that cornmeal color with your other colors, I think it will look great. I felt weird about the Mauve that is in mine but I think its great now, it makes it kinda pop, know what I mean?

Also, I am VERY glad you are deciding to do this CAL with us =)

Where is the burgandy girl? I can't wait to see yours take shape, I'm dying to see this in reds!

The funny thing is that I am so incredibly tired from the cleaning and laundry I have done today and on top of that all that crocheting and I "said" I would be taking a break....but I dunno if I actually will :P

If I am sitting here watching TV or whatever it feels STRANGE not to have crochet hook in hand hookin! :hook

Off topic: Hubby has been working on a rabbit for our 18 month old and he has officially started his own stash...He is about 3/4 of the way done with it...he is soooo proud of it hehe I have to say it is adorable so far =)

I'm also the one waiting to get the yarn. I should be picking it up within the week since I'm making decent progress on the cat quilt:hook

Judi I cant wait for you to get your yarn so you can start.

Lyn I think thats great that your hubby has the same hobby as you. It would surely help when making yarn purchases as he is probably in line with you. I bought more yarn for this project the other day and it just went into my cupboard without my hubby seeing.
