Purse handles/straps?

I'm not sure if there's a better place to post this since I'm near here, so here goes...

 

 

I'm making a purse (it's actually knit, with a crocheted edge), and I'm trying to figure out what I should do for the handle/strap. I have a little time before I get to that point, but I want to have some idea before I get too far in case I need to alter something.

 

I've been considering a pre-made handle, but are there any good crochet straps that would be sturdy in a wool mix yarn? I could also use a contrasting yarn I suppose.

 

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I have been considering a tote bag and I was planning to crochet around a 3/8" cord that I have so that the handle(s) stays a handle.

That's a good idea...I didn't think about crocheting around something sturdier.

 

I'm thinking of possibly using something that's not normally used as a handle, like ribbon, or ....something, haha!

 

I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually...
