bamboo hooks?

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I just got a new set of bamboo hooks. They aren't sliding through the yarn very well. How can I get them to slide more smoothly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the very best thing would be get 2 coats of polyurethaine on them but if you dont have that. try rubbing wax paper over them until you get them to shine

I have bamboo knitting needles and they dworked much better after a little handling

I read that you can slide it through your hair along the base or across the corners of your nose. The natural oils on your skin and in your hair are good for the wood.

I do the hair thing and it works great. I just do it whenever it starts to drag. At first it was every few minutes, now its every few days.

Works like a charm!

ya once you have then properly waxed or plished and broken in they are a dream!!!! really I never used anything but my steel hook but I have fast become addicted to wood

I think the problem is the nub of the hook isn't deep enough, my yarn slips off while I'm working.

umm ya I know just what you mean.

you may need to save that one for thinner yarns.

I'm really thinking of breaking out my knife and carving it down a bit further.

(I have some experience at this from making my own wooden hooks)

Wow, I never thought about oiling/waxing the wood. That would really make my cheap set feel a lot more like the clover one I bought. That's the feel they were missing that I just couldn't quite put my finger on (pun intended, harr). Thanks for those tips!
