i was going to suggest annie's attic but that was for the slippers and armchair caddy.

I made this one from Crochet World August 1992 issue. It has a soccerball on the front. The pattern is from Agnes Russell and done in the round. I also have the one that is done in rows, but it doesn't seem to make a nice round ball. I made five of these so far and they turn out really well. Here is one:
