I need some help - lapghans

Recommended Posts

Hi all! A student group at the school I work for "adopts" the local nursing home every year. They set a tree up in the lobby with angels on it. The angels have "wishes" for each resident. I usally try to pick the ones that request afghans or lapghans. Last year I made lapghans using Bobby's square. http://www.heartmadeblessings.org/patterns/BobbysSquare.asp

This year I thought I might try something different. Do you think the round ripple would work for someone in a wheelchair? I am concerned about the ghan draping over the chair and getting caught.

Any ideas, or links to patterns you might have used would be greatly apprecitaed!

I think I'd skip the round ripple. I agree it might get caught or might not cover well enough.

The square you did is one of my favorites.

How about the friendship jewel, another favorite of mine:

Or:

Fisherman's Ring (any color):

Snowflake square:

Birthday flower (has three examples of color changes):

Wheel Latice:

Don't be afraid of the lacier squares. Not all elderly are freezing. Some get hot but need/want a light covering now and then.

Here's some info that might help:

LAP ROBES FOR RESIDENTS IN NURSING HOMES -- You are welcome to use any pattern you wish. Generally the measurements are about a yard or 34 inches long (more or less), and about 24 inches wide (more or less). Do not put fringe on the lap robe as it can become caught up in the resident's wheelchairs. Best rule of thumb, just "try it on" yourself to see if it is about the right length and width.
