HELP with "st dec" in ripple crochet

Question

This is my first ripple project and I just did 6 dc in 6 ch spaces, and then 3 dc in 1 ch and then 6 dc again in 6 chain spaces...now it says to do "3 st dec in next three chain spaces" ??? HUH??:think

It means that you put your hook in the next stitch and yarn over and draw up a loop then you do the same in the next 2 stitches.

You will have 4 loops on your hook then yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on you hook .

If I could just expand on corky's reply a bit. . .

 

What corky has said would give you an sc decrease, but since you are working in dc, I think you'd want the decrease to be in dc also.

 

So what you do is, start a dc in the first of the 3 stitches, but only work up to the point where you have 2 loops left on your hook. That is, you'd do a yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops. Stop there; now do the same thing in each of the next 2 stitches. You should now have 4 loops on your hook; yo and pull through all 4 loops.
