Crocheted Stars??

Suzie

Question

Hello, I'm working on an American flag afghan that calls for crocheted stars. I'm not sure I want to do the crocheted stars because I don't like the "sewed on" look. It's "antique" looking with maroon, colonial blue and beige. I was kind of thinking about sewing the stars on with the beige yarn (not crocheting them but free form), does anyone have any thoughts on this???? Thanks!!!

I think the sewn-on stars would give it the Americana look...more original...and in the beige, free-from stars...that is perfect!

If you need a star pattern...here is one...

I hope you can post a picture when you are finished!!!

Is this the Homespun pattern you are working on? I did the knit version back in March, the stars were the reason I had to teach myself to crochet (you CANNOT knit small stars). As it turns out, the individual I knitted the afghan for, thought it was more quaint without the stars so I just left the blue field plain. I really want to do this pattern again in crochet, as I think it will be less tedious and will actually look better. Do you have a pic?

Thanks for the thoughts, much appreciated! It's a wedding gift for a wedding on Oct 8 so have to make a decision on the stars and get cracking! :P It is the Homespun pattern but I did it in regular worsted weight yarn for the smoother/antique look. I'll try to post a pic soon. Thanks again Misssmaggie and KC&P.
