Teaching crochet

I have volunteered to conduct classes for a social welfare organisation that teaches skills to underprivileged women and provides them with a sales outlet for their work. I would really appreciate help with :

1 Names of sites with out-of-copyright patterns that I can safely teach them.

2 Suggestions for teaching.

(The most useful patterns would be for home linen, baby items, and small items like purses.)

I am pretty sure that any of the free posted patterns would be fine to use. Someone will correct me if I am wrong. You just cannot charge a price for the pattern. It sounds like your classes don't cost anything, so I do not see the problem.

Try a website like this to look at patterns. http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/

I usually teach basics for the first project, like a rectangle that can be sewn into a hat. It teaches all the basics. (The "price" for my class is a finished hat for charity.) I have had a lot of success teaching people from age 12 to 65. Try the scrap hat at this site. http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/hats-large.html

This site has lots of hints for teaching crochet on it. http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/how-tos.html

Good luck. You are passing on a great tradition!!!!
