"Doll" Up Your Little Girl's Afghan!

In the latest "Talking Crochet" they have a cute alternative to fringe for little girl afghans. It's little dolls made from fat tassels. Click here to see it. It's about half way down the page.

 

P.S. Do all young girls braid the fringe on their afghans or was that just me?

My grandmother taught me to braid as well as crochet and knit. Mom didn't have a clue how to do any crafts or just wasn't interested. She didn't even know how to braid and I wanted to braid my hair so bad! Grandma taught me on the fringe of this little serape blanket she had. This was in the late 60's. After that whenever I was just sitting around any where and bored and there happend to be something with fringe on it within my reach - which was just about everything in the late 60's early 70's, I would braid every bit of fringe.

I just saw this on an old pattern yesterday where they altered between boy and girl tassles. it really is cute.

 

I hadn't thought of that in decades but it was quite a fad when I was a teen.

Those were a big fad when I was a teen as well. We made them in school colors, a boy and a girl that were attached together by a string on their heads. We hung them on our car mirrors.

to make the boys, you just divide the skirt into two parts and tie the ends
