Germany Meetup?

I know there are at least 5 ladies on this board in Germany. Any interest in meeting up for "Kaffee und Kuchen" or yarn shopping next month?

Marvie and I met up in Stuttgart last weekend (see our writeups here and here). We had a blast! And we found cool yarn stores there too. :)h

It doesn't have to be Frankfurt or Stuttgart, it could be any city. I'm up to travelling anywhere there's a train connection (no car), and willing to help others find their way around.

Any interest?

Well, I'm about an hour by train from Stuttgart, but for a group crochet session, I'll go just about anywhere.

I am all for Kaffee und Kuchen. Cool yarn shops are always on my list of things to find.

Hopefully, we can meet up and crochet together sometime soon.

Pfirsch - I found a blog of a lady who was in the Karlsruhe area for a while and she listed some links to nice yarn stores there.

So - my idea. We make a date to meet up in Karlsruhe next month - say the 5th?. I'll invite Marvie along, and I know there are other ladies in Germany here.....have to try and find them. We can have coffee & cake in a cafe, do some sight-seeing, and explore the yarn stores there.

Sound like a plan? :D

I'm in Neu-Ulm, but I get to Karlsruhe quite often. I used to live there and my boy still does. I must say that the yarn store pickins are pretty slim, but if you have some leads, I am all for having a look around. I will definitely see some places I've never seen before because I only know of two shops not including Karstadt.

I know that eurolyons lives near Heidelberg. She and I met towards the end of last year. There are some others on Crochetville, but I can't remember their names at the moment.

Come out, come out, whereever you are!

Just let me know where and when, okay?

Hey Pfirsch -

This is the blog I found. The first shop is in Karlsruhe and the second is one in a small town nearby. Do you know these shops? It looks like this entry is a few years old, so maybe those shops aren't there any more.

I know exactly where Bastian is. I have always said that I would go in there one day, but that day never came.

The other place wouldn't be that hard to find, I don't think. If you get back onto the tram from Bastian, Ettlingen Stadtmitte isn't that far away. Walking around Ettlingen would be nice even if we didn't find the yarn shop. Plus, we could have the best ice cream in the area at Cafe Pierrot.

Thanks for the link.

Hi pfirsch -

I just send an ezinbox message to you, Eurolyons and yarnyviolet about a possible meetup on the 5th. Do you know any other Germany ladies? I also asked MarvieN, she's checking into it.

Afternoon ladies =)

I talked to hubby and he said there's no problem, so count me in!

Here's the website I used to find LYS's here in Stuttgart, www.woolworks.org/stores/germany.html

I don't know how often/if it's ever updated...

A funny side note: I had forgotten to bookmark the page, so went back to Google and did a search for "yarn shops germany" and Anna, your post about our day came up number 5 on the list *g*

Well, as far as I know, the 5th is fine by me. Oh, I know of two shops in Karlsruhe Stadtmitte--Wolle Rödel and one whose name I can't remember right now--that we could also visit. Unfortunately, in searching for the name, I came across a blog entry about the unnamed store that makes me think that visiting there would not be such a good idea. It is ridiculously small; so, skipping it won't be a disaster.

I have some news: A friend from work found a yarn shop called Rock 'n Woll (in Ulm-Söflingen) and being the good friend that she is, told me about it. We finally went there yesterday and Rock 'n Woll rocks! It's warm, friendly, the woman told us to come in whenever we have problems or questions, and so on and so forth. I bought some yarn to make this same friend a pair of oven mitts.

Just let me know where and when. Preferably a few days in advance so that I can explain to the boy that I am coming to Karlsruhe in order to hang out with y'all and not him. When I say that there is yarn involved, he won't feel so bad. The words "yarn shop" are his kryptonite.

Hi Pfirsch!

Well, we're definitely meeting up on the 5th in Karlsruhe. How does 10am sound? That was we can go visit that yarn shop in the neighboring village (that probably closes early) and still come back and wander around Karlsruhe for a good part of the day. :D

Oh, and if you have Eurolyons email addy, could you ask her to join us? I sent her, you, and yarnyviolet an ezinbox message about this, but I haven't had a response. I guess she and yarnyviolet don't look at the board very often.

As for that small no-name shop, I think we'll skip it! Doesn't sound like the owner/salesperson has a clue about customer service. Oh, wait, this is Germany. :ohdear Okay, she has even less than a clue that most Germans.

I'm looking forward to this! :sun

And thanks for emailing eurolyons! She responded to my ezinbox and said she's going to try and make it too! Woo hoo! :)

I bought my ticket today =) Can't read the durned thing... but the guy assures me it'll get me to Karlsruhe and back, and that it's good for up to five people, and something about using it on other buses/trains too I think? Not bad for 25 Euro!

I'll be on a nine am train and should arrive at 9:50 or so but heck if I know what track! I'm just hoping I get on the right train in the first place rofl. This is my first experience out of the city, but it'll be good practice for my other trip I think. Confidence builder lol.

Can't wait for next weekend!

Cool! I must say that I just realized that we're getting together THIS Saturday. Even though I had promised my roommate that we would go snowboarding next weekend, he seemed to be understanding. I will be at the station at 9:45 or as close to it as possible. The good thing is that we can take the S-bahn from the station directly to the yarn shop.

When are the rest of y'all coming? If you book your tickets 3 days in advance, you can get a discount most of the time-- up to half price!

I haven't bought my ticket yet - I'll buy it tomorrow or Tuesday when I pass through the Hauptbahnhof. I have the Bahncard 50, so the price is always "50%" off.

I just went to bahn.de and looked up trains. There's one arriving at 9:59, so that's when I'll be there. Unless I decide to try the SchoenesWochende Ticket (like Marvie) - then I'll have to ask the Bahn ppl what train I'll be arriving on.

Anyway, I'll let you know definitely when and what track.

Should we have a special sign so we know who everybody is? ;)

Well I'll be wearing my long black/white wool coat, a wine colored tutleneck sweater, and a black chenille hat, blue jeans and black boots. I'll have a blue backpack (which I am stealing from my son lol) and an empty coffee cup ;)

Hi I just got the message. We are moving tomorrow so I wouldn't have been able to make it anyways:cry . I just came on to check things out before my internet got cut off tomorrow. I am moving to another base between Hanover and Hamburg so I should be back online at the end of the week. Actually I am moving next door to Bergen-Belsen if you know where that is. I hope everyone had fun.

Hi Tracy -

Pfirsch sent us some links to some yarn factory outlets here in Germany & I want to try arranging an outing to one of them in May or June. (I'm moving back to the States end of June/beginning of July). There was one in Hamburg that sounded really interesting and since I haven't been to Hamburg yet & it's on my list to see before I leave, I figured it would be a good way to kill two birds with one stone. ;) And if three or four of us go we can share a hotel room for the night to help cut down expenses.....
