Tell us about your Project From Hell

You know what I am talking about...that WIP in a Wal-Mart bag in the bottom of your closet. The one that you can just see the corner of when you open the door. The one that you frogged six times, or the one that you need just one more skein to complete but haven't had the heart to frog because you keep hoping that skein will turn up even though its been discontinued for 5 years.

socks! for whatever reason they are my nemisis. no matter which pattern i choose - junk is what i get!

 

i haven't been crocheting long enough to have much interesting happen.....yet:wha

 

oh wait - i have this fabulous chenille on cones that i would love to make a blanket for my bed out of.... but it loops and turns and twists so the beginning chain is unrecognizable... i need to frog it, but it took SOOOO long!

I bought this really thick yarn it was marked down to a $1.00 so I bought all three left but I can't figure out what to do it is really bulky and hard to crochet and I don't know what to make. It is driving me nuts cause I hate to waiste it. UMMMM????

Thanks guys but none of the basket patterns look like ones I can do with real real thick yarn. Do you have some more patterns for big yarn?? Sutty

the autumn basket would work - just use a larger hook, and of course, your basket will be larger...

the pot purri basket would totally work - and look good imo- again just a larger hook......

 

think along those lines and i bet you can find something

Can I count a knitting project? About 10 years ago I knitted a sock. It's ribbed cotton, worked on small double pointed needles. It took a long time and was quite fiddly to do. I'm no longer much of a knitter, so I know deep down there's no way I'll ever knit the second one. But it fits me perfectly and looks great, so I can't bring myself to throw it away, even though there is no point in having just one sock.

My project from hell an afghan using Bernat Soft Boucle (I think that's the name... <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/scratchhead.gif" />) The yarn had this beautiful ripple afghan pattern on the label that I thought would make a great gift for my brother and sister-in-law. After starting with a navy blue color that is virtually impossible to see the stitches on, I must have counted the chains wrong because the first row was off. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/irked.gif" /> I was not in the mood to completely start over and recount, so I've stuck it in my yarn bin at the very bottom. IF I finish my MIL and Aunt-in-law's afghan for Christmas, I MIGHT work on it again.

I love to crochet Southern Belle doll patterns. I have one from http://www.paradisedolls.com. It calls for 3100 clear sequins to be threaded on to the crochet cotton before beginning. I was almost finished when:sweat I realized there is a slight wow in them, and they needed to all be facing in the same direction. Had to remove them all and start all over :mad Finally finished the dress, my granddaughter thinks I am amazing, but never again!!!!

My project from hell is an afghan that I made from Homespun. As I was nearing completion it occurred to me that it was WAY TO NARROW! I'm a tad fluffy and this puppy barely covers me side-to-side. It is plenty long. I was really bummed and couldn't figure out a way to fix it. I have come up with some ideas recently (an offshoot of my scrap afghan) and hope to finish it before it gets cold (it's for me for a change). I'm pretty sure I have enough yarn--if not, my fix (adding to each side) will be done with a coordinating yarn rather than attempting to match Homespun from a year ago!

 

Oh, for those of you wondering, this is a One-stitch afghan. Simply double crochet in the back of the stitch all the way. Turn. double crochet in the back of the stitch. Easy. (but not wide enough...sob).

I'm learning how to post pics. I really am once I get that accomplished, I will have to find the photos taken with a regular camera, scan them (must buy a scanner first), and post it (I dont have the dress, made it for someone else). To me, that sounds harder than making the dress! I'm determined, however! I will succeed!

Okay, I don't know what got into me when I thought I could make my son a sweater in the afghan stitch. Now, it's not the stitch that's the problem...I also designed his name on the front. The sweater is going to be red, white, and blue. Now, changing colors isn't a problem either...it's those ENDS!!!!!:wha

 

I have at least a hundred ends to weave in so far...I'm only half done with it. So, I've decided to run the yarn a little longer so I don't have to cut it. I hope it works. It's not like it's an afghan or something...the inside could be a little ugly, right?

Okay.. here's my story.

 

When I first learned to crochet, I volunteered to make an afghan for a friend of mine. We went to the local yarn shop together, she picked out the yarn she wanted, and we found a pattern. At the time, she had a *Southwestern* theme going on at the house. She also has a king sized water bed.

 

So, I start the pattern. It was mostly single crochets, worked from right to left. Each row was finished off... you went back to the other end and began again. There was the occasional fpdc to make a southwesterny looking motif... but, like I said, it was mostly the single crochets.

 

You do the math.. that blanket was huge! It had to cover the bed... AND hang down a little!

 

It took me 5 years (working on it off and on) to complete it.

OMG five years!!! that's crazy!! I have a feeling that's gonna happen to me...

 

I'm working on an afghan for my room right now. Each row takes me forever to do, and you finish off on each row. (waay too many ends.) I've been working on it on and off for about a month and I have a grand total of six rows done. six. At the rate I'm going, it's going to take forever. I love the pattern (it's from a book called Color Charged Throws) but I realized I'm not too crazy about the yarn I picked. The main color is yellow (to match my room) and I'm using Caron simply soft in Lemonade. Well, it's Lemonade colored when it's in the skein... but crocheted up, it seems more like Electric Canary or something.

 

I've been busy with school and other stuff, so I haven't worked on it in a while. My mom keeps asking me how it's coming... I tell her "good!"

Hi all - I've never posted here before but thought I'd chime in with my project from hell...

 

I was making an afghan for a friend's baby. I knew what I wanted to make but couldn't find a pattern for it - I wanted to make a diagonal afghan, where you alternate singles and half doubles (or something like that) and increase every row until you get to the middle, then decrease until you get to the far corner. I'd seen a similar pattern somewhere once and tried to go from memory making it the right size for a baby afghan.

 

So I started off and did great until I was done and realized that I should've folded it in half at some point to check my work on the decrease half. While I was doing the decreases - I did more decreases than I was supposed to and that half was much smaller than the first half! I could have cried having to undo all that work!

Oh boy I purchased the Pooh and friends crochet book and started on Pooh forever ago and got so darn frustrated:irked , well I ended up emailing the co who published the pattern and got some explanations but haven't got the nerve to start up again.I have several start up projects and got bored in the middle but POOH really got me:oops

Just the usual, nightmare first afghan...it was done in double crochet...and uh lets just say I lost a stitch almost every row, and that thing was huge! so, one side is wider than the other and then there was the hole where I tied the knot when I changed yarns....in the middle of a row! so it became a dog blanket for awhile...and then I made my husband throw it out cause the shame of it all was keeping me up at nights LOL!:bad

Okay I've got some. My first afghan I did with my own pattern was a disaster. Get this. When I was, 13 or 14, and I had just picked crochet "back up" from 12, I wanted to make an afghan for Mom and Dad for Valentines day. I wanted white back ground with pink hearts, with a strip of red on two ends and lined with white. (I think that was the color pattern) Anyway, I had never made my own design, and I had never changed colors like this. (I had not gottten my knots quite down yete either) So, it turned out in the shape of a pot. Pulled in on both ends. I though the heart shapes turned out pretty good under the circumstances, but it was falling apart. Maybe someday I'll try again!

I just found out the that the pattern I used to make and sell two American flags, was wrong. They had the red strip under the star field instead of the white. (My customer spotted it first. The political group) Oh brother. So, I've offered to buy it back. But I've about had it with that pattern!
