Warning about a web-wite link.

Recommended Posts

Okay Folks...I hope this is recieved as it is intended...a warning...not just for us adults...but for our kids who may have an interest in crafts and like to check-out new programs and the web-sites featured on those sites.

I was at another crochet related site. They are promting a new tv program..."Uncommon Threads". I missed the first show...so I went to the web-site to check-out what I had missed.

It was about hooked rugs. I went to the web-site for the guest...thinking I would get some new tips on latch-hook...WELL...IT IS A PORN SITE!!! It was not a mistake!!!

I WAS SO SHOCKED!!! What if our kids were interested in latch-hooking and saw that!

I am so glad there are no such "surprises" here!!!

I guess doing soft-port in latch-hook would be considered art somewhere! :eek

I agree that it is a bit shocking. Perhaps the DIY network website could have had some type of disclaimer next to that link, like "although the following website is latch-hook, it contains adult themes" or somesuch? :think

Well, well, well. I wonder how Proctor and Gamble will feel about this. I just gave them the heads-up. Bet they don't want their image dirtied.(pun intended)

Advertisers have so much pull in website content.

Was it a direct link you followed or did you type in the address? I know I made the mistake of going to WhiteHouse.com instead of .gov and unfortunately got an eyeful :eek

The latch-hook rugs they create are of soft-porn images. It's not a erroneous site address, it's just a bit unexpected content.

Exactly. Not a porn site.

I hope they do something about that I don't want my child viewing that

It's not on the show/site, but what they do make you might not like depending on your tates. Best thing to do, not let your child surf the internet without supervision.

Something I found much more shocking and offeding is one day I was looking for hotpads for someone. I looked at a certain site (not CPC) that has a lot of kitchen stuff. Clicked on a link and was directed to a real porn site. It's not the site owner's fault. She (or he) just has links. I don't even blame the hotpad link owner. Sometimes sites are lost or let go for whatever reasons. It's the porn scum I blame. They buy/take over lost links and redirect you to porn.

It happens all the time.

The porn sites also quite often hijack a legitimate link, unfortunately. If the site you are referring to here is the one I think it is, I recall reading a message in one of my crochet email lists from this gal that she has had quite a bit of problems along those lines and has had to spend a LOT of time trying to get them corrected. It's got to be a daunting process that never ends!

So far (knock wood) I've been pretty lucky, though once long ago I was doing an innocent google search for something and clicked on a link that I thought would take me to a page with information on my targeted subject, only to get blindsided by some extremely graphic porn (this was one of those links that had been hijacked). Much to my horrified dismay, every time I clicked to close the window, 3 more would pop up until I had about a dozen of the dang things open! :eek I had to shut my system down to get rid of it. I hope I never have to go through THAT again!

I agree with empress. I don't think it is meant as pornography rather a take on the idea of female beauty etc. She is an artist expressing herself via latch hooking despite the subject matter I have to say she is very talented her images have a large range of colors and such detail. I always say to each their own, but then again I make sure to watch where my son spends his time on the internet.

Unfortunately...this was not a hi-jack...The link was not pre-viewed.

When you are exploring craft ideas with your kids...you would be surpised as ever to click that link with your child sitting there!

I did express my concerns to DIY...and this was the reply...so hopefully this will not happen again.

Thank you for your e-mail. I apologize - we have removed the link to the guest's web site. We normally do not check the URL's when they are provided to us by the producers of the show, but, in light of this one, we will probably start. Again, I apologize and thank you for your interest.

I know it was not a hijack. Both Drew and I pointed out how it is in fact a hook rug site. It's just the rugs are not to your tastes. We all have different tastes and while I agree that I probably wouldn't have been happy with my child on my lap when I viewed it; I also don't click links, no matter how innocent with her on my lap. I only go to sites with her that are geared for her: noggin, PBS, etc.

I think that's very sad. There's a difference between nudity and PORN.

I agree.
