Do you think it will sell??

Recommended Posts

I was browsing through eBay and saw this afghan - cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=954&item=8163596551&rd=1

My favorite part about it is the claim that it used the "best material available" - 4 ply Red Heart yarn. :thinking2 Although I love Red Heart, I don't think it's the best material available... :lol

Nope!! eBay is for deals! She would have better luck trying to sell it at a craft fair or getting a posh shop to sell it for her. :eek2

Making afghans is rewarding..but not in a monetary sense!!

The other one looks like a rib stitch of some sort, nothing as detailed as the color changes in the more expensive one. Shoot, I guess if you price it, someone might be willing to pay for it, but I wouldn't feel right pricing an afghan at that unless I spent about $100 on some nice yarn.

first off, let me just say that i hope this person is not on the board :o

then, WOW, that is a LOT of cash!

maybe, rh is the best available where she is????

and to set you all a little straight -- that is enterlec with a tunisian hook.... not at all difficult, just looks it (kinda like the diagonal box stitch). in fact, there is a tutorial for it on the web somewhere... called my crazy blanket or something like that. i have it saved and will hunt it down if anyone wants me to. i'll be simply AMAZED if that sells.:faint

(and think to myself "someone got poked":hee )

I love that afghan but not to the tune of 800 and some dollars! If I don't ever learn anything else from this board it is the fact that Red heart is not the best yarn but, I do like Red Heart for some projects.

It is an interesting afghan, but me thinks someone is a little delusional <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/Loco.gif" />

And, while Red Heart does have it's uses and I"ve used it many times myself, it's *far* from the "best materials available"

Oh my!! :faint This is going to be the most watched afghan on the planet!! With all due respect to the crocheter, but I've seen hand-stitched quilts not go for that much.

I think if the seller had listed it under collectibles, or another than crocheting where the typical browser is a crocheter, there is a chance for it to sell. Someone could be attracted to the fact that it's claimed as a one of a kind original and purchase it because of that.

BUT, most other finished afghans listed on eBay are between $20-$50. If you could spend $20 why spend $800? I wish that afghans were listed higher than that because I think they should be, with a minimum of at least $100 for a well-made afghan.

I totally agree w you Tiff they should sell for more. Unfortanently when you can buy stuff at Walmart for so cheap people just can't see spending as much as something is worth that's handmade. The only way you can really get a good price for handmade stuff is to get some celebrity interested in your stuff and:woohoo

The afghan looks like it took alot of time to do.I hope she get's an offer of $100 or so at least. Too bad our handywork doesn't always get the appreciation that we think it deserves.

I think $100 and up is perfectly reasonable for RH yarn and the work she put into it. Unfortunately with her starting bid at $750 nobody can bid that low.

I think it is a really neat afgan. Has a Mardi Grais feel to it.

But to the tune of 750...wow....maybe some one famous made it? Like...Harry Connick Jr or Nichole Kidman...then maybe it would get that much.

Well, I hope the person who made it IS on this board and has read these posts, so we might be able to slap 'em out of dream land!!! HOLY COW! I wouldn't pay 750 for any blanket/afghan/coverlet etc, if the Pope himself blessed it, and Brad Pitt slept naked in in for a month leaving his warm wonderful scent all over it!

Nuff said!

Good gravy! Maybe if the entire thing was made out of silk... or angora :rabbit ... or the spun fleece of one of Ulysses golden sheep :sheep , but Red Heart yarn?!

I'll admit it's a neat pattern though. I'd be afraid to ask how much to have a copy of the pattern... if the seller would part with it at all... after all, it would drag down the value of the "one of a kind". :hee

If it sells, I'm putting one made of Homespun up for that price. :D!

Ulysses golden sheep! :rotfl

It is an interesting pattern. It's not my personal taste (maybe if it was done in all one color to show the patterns in a subtle way), but this is the first time I've seen the ripple stitch done all around like that. It makes an interesting border. I guess that could also be done with those blankets that use granny squares turned on the diagonal.

I just have to chime in and say if Brad Pitt had slept on it naked for a month, I might consider it... :bad but still wouldn't buy it.
