My daughter (9 years) got a amigurumicat from me and a crochet-felted handbag. She loves both.

The amigurumi is "cool" but still a toy so she can have something to cuddle without looking childish (she is gets in the age she hides toys from her friends and blames her little sister for the spreaded dolls in her "cool" jungle room)

This 'duffle' purse is the best:

I've lost count of how many I've made for my friends and relatives' daughters and one for my own girl. I've used everything from Red Heart to Mainstays. I added flowers to the ends and the closure. I use Velcro rather than the button.

Everyone loves it. It's easy and works up fast. :)
