It's yellow!!!Help!!!

I took my nearly finished bath blanket I'm working on to a friend's and her heathen hound peed on it.

Dear friends, it does not look good. (It don't smell so hot either).

I'm using white:eek2 Bernat's Cotton Tots.I don't know what to do. Drown it in Febreeze and keep working? Use spot remover? Stop work and wash it now? Have her dog pee all over the whole thing and go for a varigated look?

Really, I am kinda bummed out.

The pestilential mutt managed to dribble over most of the blanket because I had it folded up. (I think he'ld been saving up or something.) My lovely yarn absorbed splishes and splashes so I can't frog it without losing a lot of yarn. There's got to be something I can do.

I'm sorry I did laugh :rotfl but just about the varigated part. Thats terrible. Thats alot of work to be ruined by a dog. I'd be mad to. :mad All I would suggest is to finish off and wash it. You can't touch it to finish it. Yuk! Sorry I don't know what else to tell you. I just know that dog would have been in big trouble.

I would also say to cut it where you're at, tie it off, then throw it in the wash with maybe some arm and hammer baking soda....

Can you spray it with the febreeze an see if that helps? If you are just about done I would hate to wash it and have it shrink up some and then try to finish.

I can Febreeze it and keep working on it but will the stain come out when I wash it? Maybe it's not the Big Hairy Deal I think it is but I'll be so disappointed if the stain's there after I've worked on it for so long.

I want to stuff it in a bag and just chill out about it but I think the longer the stain's there the harder it will be to

remove.

Surprisingly, I have not encounterd this problem before.

Oh Deb!! :eek2 Maybe you should call your friend and ask for washing instructions... surely this has happened to her too. Though you did say you thought the dog had ben saving up.

don't use febreze if you can help it... it just masks the odor and doesn't really get rid of it. You need something a little more powerful for that (enzymatic cleaners -- febreze claims to be but then it never gets everything out).

 

Woolite make a special cleanser for rugs damaged by animal pee or mud it works just fine on cotton without destroying the colors or anything else. It gets out the scent and the... variegation.

 

I use nature's miracle here but we keep a gallon of it around in case the cat/dogs have an accident. It's a little pricey, but also gets out the stain/scent -- which keeps the animals from peeing on it again (not that that will be an issue in your case).

 

Hope that helps. In the cleaning aisle at my grocery store they have the woolite for rugs, and that's probably what I'd use.

I use Simple Green. It gets out those weird grease stains that show up out of nowhere, too. It's organic and was designed originally for cleaning engines.

Since it's pee (an organic compound) have you tried using plain peroxide? I know it gets bloodstains out great! It'll foam like crazy, but that means it's working.

when its any kind of animal stain i use an enzyme cleaner found in the pet aisle.. it gets the stain out and smell.. and deters the animal from coming back to that spot...its called OUT! pet stain and odor remover

I would fasten it off & wash now. The ick factor would wig me out too much to work on it dirty plus if the stain *wont'* come out, no use throwing good yarn after bad.

 

I'll 2nd the vote for Nature's miracle or oxyclean, both are wonderful products <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/toothygrin.gif" />

 

If you wash in cold & let it air dry, hopefully it won't shrink and mess up your guage.

I'd go for the peroxide. Let it bubble the snot out of it (it's great for blood stains) and then rinse, rinse, rinse in cold water and then let it air dry.

My first thought was Nature's Miracle too... yeah it's kind of pricey, but think of the cost of the yarn that you'll lose if you can't get it out! <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/no.gif" />

Oh No! That is awfull. We have heard of and have some of the Green stuff, but I'm afraid I can't give any advice on this. Hope you get it out!

I have decide to make some little swatches and, er, soak them in some pee (don't ask) and use an assortment of the products all of you have mentioned to see which works best.

I'm doing this deep in the bowels of my basement workshop in case someone sees me and thinks I' a nutter.

I'm a little out there:frog , but this is wierd even for me.

Here is an idea that my vet gave me when my dog was having accidents.

 

Go and get some messengale douche (not sure of the spelling). pour it on the stain and wait a few minutes, then wash it. Believe me it works. Not only does it get rid of the smell, but it also gets rid of the stain.

Oh my heavens, Deb! I was merely grinning and feeling sympathetic to your plight til I got to the part where you posted this : "I have decided to make some little swatches and, er, soak them in some pee (don't ask) ..." *Then* I completely lost it. My son came downstairs to ask me what the heck I was laughing so hard about!

 

I'll keep my fingers crossed that all turns out well. I don't expect to have this problem myself anytime soon (unless I happen to be sitting on a crocheted blanket when I next read a post like the one above, in which case I may need to de-pee some crochet, too <g>) but I do want to see what works best in this case. Oh my gosh!!! I have 3 cats and 2 dogs and I'd be furious with that dog!! I'll second the Nature's Miracle option, but if you don't want to spend the money on that, and if you have some cheap vodka lying around, my friend swears it works just as good as Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution, the two pet enzymatic products. I don't like vodka, so I never have that lying around. But he had a bad cat who peed on everything, so he would know what gets that urine smell and stain out. Good luck, and I want to hear the results of the experiment, too!

Actually, I didn't use human urine, though the thought may have flitted through my mind briefly:thinking1 Friend across the street has a litter of five week old pups so, with her help, I'm putting swatches on the floor and they are getting peed on very nicely, thank you. Have to watch for the number two but so far I have two "varigated" swatches. Friend across the street thinks I'm a fruitcake. This isn't doing much for my reputation.

I'm going to try Woolite and oxysomething because that's all I can get to right now.

I called a vet and evidently dog pee is some awesome stuff. Adult male urine is the hardest to get out. I'm lucky (luck is relative, don'tcha know) the little buzzard who peed on my blanket was a puppy (with a bladder the size of Pittsburg)
