If you could only have one book. Between the Crochet Stitch Bible and

200 Crochet Blocks which one would you pick? I have heard lots of talk about them both and good things.I have never even got to browse through either of them. So I would like imput on which one would you choose if you could only get one? :hug

Actually, I want both of these books really bad, but can't afford it right now....but hope to get them one of these days. If I could only choose one, I guess I'd have to settle for the 200 blocks book. The reason being that I have been doing a lot of squares lately and I'm always looking for new ideas.

I managed to find them on sale and with a hubby that is an enabler, I have both. Hard to say which is my favorite. I'm in the Traveling Hook project and must say I grabbed the 200 Blocks immediately to help figure out what to make. However, the bible book has some great things in it to. Ok, now that I've been talking out loud here, I'd say if you HAD to pick one, 200 Blocks.

200 Crochet Blocks as I enjoy making granny/motif style afghans and therefore this would be a very handy reference for me to have nearby.:yes

I hate making blocks (ok I actually hate assembling them and tucking endless ends), so between the two, I'd have to pick the stitch bible -- which I happened to get for Christmas this last year. :D

But the book I can't live without is the Encyclopedia of Crochet. :D

Look like it will be the 200 Crochet Blocks. Hummmmm :think But then Suebee threw the thought in of the encyclopedia of crochet. Thank you all for your opinions.:hug

I don't have the crochet bible, but I do have the 200 blocks book, and I just love looking through it! I haven't done anything with it, but I will, someday.

So, what other favorite books do folks have that they would want to have on the island with them?

I make a lot of afghans, and two of my favorite afghans books (so far) are LA's Our Best Baby Afghans and LA's Afghans for All Seasons, book 4.

BTW, I was in Michael's the other day, and I saw a LA leaflet called Cool Summer Sweaters. I looked through it and didn't get it, but I was interested, and many of you will be also, I think, because all of the sweater designs went up to an XL (and I think all of them would actually fit me). I especially like the beige sweater on the cover.

I completely agree!! It has some of the most beautiful color schemes ever, and it is so much fun!!

I have them both also. (Now if I only had that Encyclopedia!) I like both of them and have used them both. The 200 blocks book does have a lot of pattern stitches that you don't necessarily have to use in a block format. I got the bible more recently and it does have a lot of good stitches, and good directions!

I must really count my blessings today! I have all three - 200 Blocks, Bible and Encyclopedia.

If you can have all three, GREAT! They are all wonderful and they are my most used resources.

If you can get two, I would definitely say 200 Blocks and the Crochet Stitch Bible. I like it more than the Encyclopedia, although I have turned to the other when the first doesn't work more than once.

If you must choose ONLY ONE (horrors!), I would be hard pressed to say which one. Blocks is good for - well, blocks. The Bible is good for much more: deciding which stitch to use, alternative stitches in the same family, learning stitches, etc. I think all in all, the Bible has more flexibility in the types of projects it can help you do.

I just wanted to say that that that was a wonderfully informative and helpful answer. Not just which is best, but why, so if I disagreed with your reasoning I would still be helped!

Can I just add that I really want Crochet Stitch Bible? :)
