Breezy Duster pattern

Recommended Posts

I found this pattern and purchased it on the 99 cent pattern site http://www.e-patternscentral.com/product_list.html?criteria=breezy+duster&cat_id=&brand_id=&x=17&y=10 and I'm currently working on it.

Now I found it here http://www.maggiescrochet.com/pages/Leaflets/ASN_Annies/ASN_1403_lacy_fashions_main.htm

so I guess it's pretty popular!

I also got the e-newsletter from the 99 cent pattern place and that was one that they showed as a best-seller.

This will be my first truly wearable item I've crocheted (unless wrapping an afghan around yourself counts as 'wearing'). The pattern actually makes SENSE! Can you believe it? I've already done the entire body part and am working on the sleeves. It's only taken about a month (I work on other things too, of course). I mean, I've made shawls and wraps but never anything with a sleeve!

I did do a substitution... I think the pattern called for thread and I just thought that was nuts (an entire long sweater in thread?:eek ) so I substituted microspun and used the sizing for Large with the hopes that I would end up with the 1XL (it has five sizes - I did the middle one hoping it would end up the size of the big one) - I didn't bother with that checking guage thing 'cause that just seemed like too much bother...

Wish me luck!:devil

I was hoping someone would mention how the book is - hate to miss out on a good pattern:eek - I love the Breezy Duster and was curious what else they would put in the booklet with it!

It is really a pretty pattern, and I look forward to your sharing your creation with us when you are done! But what amazes me is the difference in price there! guess it pays to shop around on line!:yes

Wow, I know what you mean about the price difference! I was just curious what the other patterns are in the booket - I think it said six designs...

I am making progress:woo and this IS exciting! I was given a really stupid assignment today - I had to drive to downtown L.A. Civil Courthouse and be 'on-call' - that means I'm available in case another court reporter... I don't know - quits. faints from boredom... anyway, they gave me a key to a broom closet (also known as an on-call office) and I crocheted ALL DAY!!!!!! I am working on the back of the sleeves:jumpyay and then I get to try and 'visualize' how it goes together! and put it together.

I'm thinking maybe this week *crossing fingers* and I'll post a picture (of course) - but if it makes me look fat then I'll have my daughter wearing it!

I wish you the best of luck Paulette! I so badly want to start this one for myself as well but i'm a little intimidated of it because i've not made that many wearables. I cant wait to see your finished duster! I'm sure it will be beautiful and look absolutely fabulous on you!!! I too thought they were nuts using thread for the whole thing. I wanted to make mine is some kind of nice soft baby yarn or something but I dont know how to substitute yarns and things like that. I'll see how yours turns out and I may try my had at the same type yarn for mine.

I also purchased that pattern from epatternscentral. I haven't started it yet so I'm excited to see how yours turns out. Glad to hear that there aren't any errors yet. I might try making a shorter version. By the way, do they allow crochet hooks in jury waiting rooms?

The courts here in California allow plastic or wooden crochet hooks - same with knitting needles - they frown upon a set of 12 inch pointed spears!

DO NOT take scissors in, however small and harmless they may look - I've seen them take blunt-end kindergarten scissors away from people! Use either nail clippers or those cute little circular cutters (they make them for thread and yarn!)

I'm on jury duty this week! It's on-call - I have to call each evening and find out if they need me the next day - if not, then I get to go to work. Yippee. I am actually hoping to get called in and put on a six-month trial... but that's just me :think

I regret to inform those concerned that the breezy duster (or dusty breezer) which was done to the point of only needing the edging put on came to a sudden and deadly demise.

I had used black microspun instead of thread so it was coming out HUGE, but I was able to 'cinch' it up with some tight edge stitching, etc... it was gonna work.

Being the drama queen and sometimes unable to get a handle on my moods (though I do take my medication regularly) while in an argument with dear hubby (don't remember about what - but not crocheting) I angrily took A PAIR OF SCISSORS TO THE WHOLE BLASTED THING. Why I took it out on the sweater, I do not know. There were pieces of black microspun all over the den though!

I will make the pattern again, probably in the fall, using thread (as called for) and will try and keep my temperature under control.

Pretty pathetic huh?:no

It's all the microspuns fault for being slippery and splitty (is that a word?.. well it is now).

Oh Paulette, I'm so sorry! I personally can't imagine doing such a thing (I'm sooooo materialistic that way) but I can imagine getting that angry that I'd want to...hugs sweetie...

Thanks for the caring, all of you! It means a lot.

Even at 41 I still have 'tantrums' sometimes and don't know how to express my frustration and anger... I used to turn it on myself - not good - now I turn it on material things that mean something to me... I've crushed a couple mosaic designs, ripped up a couple quilts - better than adding to the scars...

And I will make it again... it was coming out pretty wonky anyway - though it was a LOT OF WORK!!!!! Damn microspun! Just kidding.

Hurting myself was my way of trying to show how much I was hurting so I guess I've progressed to yarn abuse:eek

I love my Crochetville family:manyheart

Well I'm 47 and I still have my tantrums too...I can turn the air blue from time to time if I get frustrated...speaking of which...opened the damn freezer to pull out an ice tray, two can out, one fell on my toe...one next to the toe that got hit with the Jimmy Dean sausage in the spring...it's purple, but not as purple as the other toe was the last time...

And yes, I turned the air blue then too...

Hugs sweetie...

This pattern is alot of work...it took me well over a week just to do the first part (the body part...) It just seemed neverending...but now I'm on the back and that's about 1/2 done...

My dear, I think your frozen food has it out for you! :eek You need to crochet you some steel toe slippers to wear in front of that thing or you may not see '07!:lol

Sorry about your toe:yes

So sorry to hear of the fate of your microspun duster turned into micro-particles. :(:hug No doubt we all have our own secret tantrum stories to tell, if we were so inclined to be as brave as you! :blush There's a reason I live alone - it's to protect the innocent and unsuspecting from my own wild mood swings, sometimes they scare even me. Ah well, at least this way I don't have to worry about where to hide the bodies. But I CAN attest to having many times had to restrain myself from ripping a WIP apart with my bare hands (if you can imagine THAT) when my frustration and temper reached the Vesuvius point. It wouldn't surprise me at all if I did manage to tear a piece of crocheted fabric apart without the aid of any sharp instruments in those cases!

I am absolutely LUSTING over that pattern, btw, but there's no point in my buying it from epattern since I have no printer and can't move the pattern file. I'm still waiting for the pattern book to show up at Hobby Lobby or JoAnns or Michaels - at the same time that I actually have some money I can spend - then I could pick it up at 40% off with one of those coupons that always manage to find their way to me, even when I DON'T have money to spend. Sooner or later, it'll be mine though. For some things, I can have the patience of a saint! :lol

Goldi, thanks for the sweet words... I don't feel alone... in fact I never feel alone here on the 'ville

As for the pattern, it is really delightful to stitch up! Not difficult and a 'fun' stitch... it did nothing to deserve being turned into micro-particles (I liked the word!) and I actually enjoy using Microspun. But, the pattern actually calls for #3 thread (I think) and I was definitely making it way too big anyway.

I shall try-try again...

I'm of the opinion that if we were meant to wear shoes all the time, we would've been born with them on. Barefoot is the only way to go. I recently discovered REEF brand flipflops..and I don't wear any other shoes now unless I really must.

OMG.. I never thought I'd pay so much for a pair of flipflops.. but these are soooooooooooo comfortable.

back to the duster:

Maybe I should get this pattern.... those of ya'll who have it.. how large does it run?

Lisa, the sizes go from small to XXL...I'm doing XL (40-41) and even that looks a bit big, even for me...so we'll see...I haven't worked on mine for a couple of days or so because it's really been too hot to crochet...I did absolutely NOTHING but watch dvd's yesterday. My DH moved my mattress (our bed is one bed but two mattresses) out to the terrace and I had the best night's sleep in ages...
