What does Amigurumi mean??

Recommended Posts

"ami" comes from the root word "amu" - meaning "to weave" in Japanese

"amimono" therefore includes anything woven including cloth (mostly hand-woven), knitted and crocheted material ("mono" means things)

"gurumi" is derived from "nuigurumi" - meaning "stuffed doll" including teddy bears

"nui" is conjugated from the word "nuu" - meaning "to sew"

Current terminology uses "amigurumi" to refer mostly to crocheted stuffed toys (animals, cakes, dolls, etc.)

Hope this helps.
