Muddiness between colors

Recommended Posts

When dyeing yarn, how do you prevent or minimize "muddiness"? (When the colors bleed into one another) It seems like the less muddiness there is, the more vibrant the colors are.

You have to be sure that the colors you select combine well, so that when they bleed they will create a nice color rather than just mud. Maybe someone has a link to a site that shows color wheels. Also, before commiting a whole skein, take a length of yarn and brush on or drip the colors you plan to use. That way, you can see ahead of time what the results will be. The further apart your colors are, the less bleeding into each other there will be, but you might also wind up with white areas. Of course, white's okay, if you want it.

Dyeing is a learning process. Don't get discouraged.
