Where's your favorite place to buy yarn?

Recommended Posts

I don't have a very big stash yet, but I'm always on the lookout for more. So far I've bought most of my yarn from Walmart. The selection seems ok and the prices are good (I haven't needed anything too fancy or specific). I've also bought some from Zellers, which had alot more colours than Walmart did. I've looked through Michaels, but never bought any there as I've always found the exact same at Walmart for less. And I did pick up some clearance skeins from Lewiscraft. Oh and the Superstore by me (Loblaws) has the big 1lb skeins (slightly cheaper than Walmart), but I haven't bought any from there yet.

So I guess the answer to my own question is Walmart, but mostly through default only, not store loyalty or anything.

Anywhere online that has free shipping or 40% off one item as well as a sale on what I want.

Being up in the mountains there is only one LYS that carries mostly Red Heart and a couple of shades of Bernat, nothing fancy AT ALL, mostly super saver.

She also sells, latch kits, cross stitch, plastic canvas as well as beading work so she can only fit so much in her garage/store.

Locally, I buy yarn at Hobby Lobby or Michael's. I also shop online, either at Patternworks or Dreamweaver Yarns. Herrschners occasionally will offer free shipping and I'll sometime take advantage of that.

I shop on-line at: Jo-Ann, Smileys, Knitters Warehouse, Webs, Herschnerrs, West Coast yarn and Webs.

The fastest service is from Smiley's, Knitters Warehouse and Webs (lightning!). I am still waiting (10 days) for Herschnerrs and West Coast Yarn so the jury is still out on them.

All have good prices, although I only order yarn from Jo-Ann when there is free shipping.

If I buy local, its walmart, hobby lobby, or michaels (where i scored an embarressingly amount of moda dea ticker tape for 2.50 a ball at christmas!!). On line, I like patternworks. They have really good prices. Euro Yarns online is a good place too. Large selection on the "good stuff". They ship really fast too.

I remember when I first started crocheting when I was like 9 years old, waaaay back in the '70's. it's amazing how the market has grown since then. the colors and textures I had to choose from then was nothing like whats available now.

Okay, now that I've managed to get myself under control again. :lol

Locally, I do most of my yarn shopping at Hobby Lobby and JoAnns, with an occasional foray into Walmart. Michaels gets nothing from me. :angry

Online, it's Knit Picks and Elann (this one is a Canadian place, btw), so far. I'd love to shop at some of the others mentioned, when my budget restriction is lifted (and I reduce my stash some - it's out of control). :hook
