Robert Redford

Last night on one of our PBS TV channels, Robt Redford hosted a program (sorry, didn't get the name exactly, something like "New Frontiers"??) that featured a piece on poor Brazilian women who had formed a co-op to make and sell clothing. They design and make unusual but beautiful pieces, and almost every one was either completely crocheted or had some element of crochet. Jackets had crocheted edgings on pockets, hems, cuffs; some dresses and tops were completely crochet, some were trimmed in crochet. Everything was very modern, kinda sexy, some even had a little rock-star chic almost. For the first time, they'd been able to take their line to a fashion show, and as a result, got orders from South American and European fashion houses for their designs. It was neat to see them making their clothes. Where do you ever see about a dozen women all crocheting or sewing clothing? It was very cool.
