Texas flag afghan

Question

Hi all. Well, I'm almost done one afghan now my husband has put in his order but I can't find it anywhere.

He really wants me to make him a Texas flag afghan. Does anyone have one to share or know where I can find one?

I would really appreciate it.

thanks

Lisa

I made one last Christmas for a Teacher's Gift. The Texas Flag is really simple to make, the only "trouble" I had was finding a star pattern I liked (which I did at Crochet Pattern Central). Here's the one I made..it looks narrow in the photo, but it was nearly a twin size afghan. Donna

That is so pretty. My problem? Hubby wants one for our bed, which is a queen size. Told him he was crazy but I'll see what I can do. MEN!! lol

The Flag is basically just three panels. Measure the current blanket you have on it. Divide the width by two..one side for the red stripe, one for the white...then decide how long you want the blue field. The star will be simple, once you find the pattern you want, just use a larger hook and bulky yarn.

Thanks for the tip Donna. I will likely do that. Hmm, now to find a star pattern that I can work into it. I'm still pretty much on the basic level of this stuff but I catch on quick. I just wish I had someone showing me instead of having to teach it to myself through books, etc.

Thanks for all your help.

Lisa

p.s....Saw all the blogs on here and decided to try making one myself. I will post what I get done when I get it done....thanks

This is a pretty old thread but if anyone of you are still around my son (he's 3) has decided he needs a Texas Flag also. Which star pattern did you use? We live 2000 miles from Texas and have never been there, but that's what he wants! :think I'm in the middle of an American Flag for my 7 year old.

Are you looking for an afghan pattern for him or what? I'm in the process of making a graph of the Texas flag that's 100x100 and should have it shortly in my Epson albums as soon as I get it converted & uploaded if you want to see it.

HTH! :hook

That would be great! I thought I would just sort of wing it without a pattern and just slap a star on it.... not sure if I would knit or crochet it yet. I think crochet would be faster.

I don't think anyone posted a pattern, plus this is a 13 year old thread and I don't think most of the posters have been around in a while.

I am not finding a free pattern, BUT I see some 'for purchase' patterns that are just red, white, and blue rectangles with a star applique (would look best if you made 2 stars so it would look nice on both sides, IMO).  You could make the base flag in 1 piece, start at the white end end back and forth, then switch to half red half blue for the rest.  No need to carry the yarn, the other color would be waiting for you to pick up in the middle.

This star might be the right proportion; you might be able to fiddle with the tips to make them pointier

Or, here is a pattern for purchase, with the star done in colorwork, but with embroidery on Tunisian stitches
