Where do you keep your hooks?

I have my great-grandmother's sewing notion box, cute pink plastic case, clear top with kitties on it, has a small tray that swings up when the lid opens. It's really precious.

 

Do you block stuff?

Boy, not if I can avoid it.

 

Do you dream "in crochet"?

Probably!! I dream about numbers a lot, that may be counting the rows/stitches?

 

Biggest think you ever crocheted? Smallest?

Biggest: An afghan for my mother.

Smallest: A cellphone purse done in thread.

 

Where do you keep your WIPs?

On my coffee table, or my lap depending on how determined I am to turn them into just W instead of WIPs.

 

Do you make things for yourself?

Not very often, 1 out of every 20 things? Now that I've dropped my reluctance to work with yarn OTHER than worsted wt, I may start.

Do you make things for yourself? All the time. Just made 2 shawls, a back pack, and a chenille throw for myself...currently working on an apron...for me, me, me...I'm so selfish sometimes...

I have an ugly boye crochet hook case (then that goes in my tote bag). But I just bought a gorgeous rollup from ebay (ill post pic in blog. I can't wait to get it!! Gonna get a knitting needle one too)

Nope. But I think i'll have to block my new poncho cuz its all bumpy and stuff.

Where do you keep your WIPs?

In my tote if its small enough, which goes next to my side of the couch. Or just leave it in the couch or chair if i plan on working on it.

 

Do you make things for yourself?

Most of the time. I've made hats and scarves for other people though. One day I'll make an afghan for my aunt. I wanted to make sure i got it down pat before i start giving gifts.

Where do you keep your hooks?

In a plastic container, the kind they sell those icky 3D Doritos in. I bought a package of them just because the container was the right size (about 8" long, maybe 2.5" across the bottom, with a pop-off lid), dumped the Doritos into a baggie for the rest of the family to eat, and washed out the container. It's perfect to hold hooks (except my Q hook, which is too long), my little 7" ruler, folding scissors, yarn needles, etc.

 

Do you block stuff?

Only if it really needs it. If it looks like it wants to curl or isn't square or what have you, I'll do it - otherwise I don't.

 

Do you dream "in crochet"?

I usually don't remember dreams very well, but I've woken up in the morning thinking, "Oh! I have *got* to make this!" (Usually that's something I saw a pattern for recently and then just woke up determined to make.)

 

Biggest think you ever crocheted? Smallest?

The biggest thing was an afghan that I made as a wedding gift. The smallest was probably the thread bookmark I made last week.

 

Where do you keep your WIPs?

In plastic bags - ziploc if they're small, in big plastic shopping bags if they're big. (The D.E. Jones near me - that's a discount store - uses positively enormous shopping bags, so I always save those in case of big projects.)

 

I can't use a basket or a bag that can't be closed up because my cats love to climb in with my projects and get all cozy and shed all over the place. I used to have a zippered tote bag that I'd use for anything that wasn't too big, but the zipper broke so I'm just using plastic these days.

 

Do you make things for yourself?

A lot of times, yes. I've only gotten confident enough to start making things for other people in the past year or two. This year I have a lot on my plate for holiday giffts, though - I hope everything comes out good!

 

 

Do you use patterns?

I almost never work without a pattern. Lots of times I'll change something, like with the shawl I just made I used worsted weight instead of two strands of fingering weight like the pattern called for since that's what I had on hand, and then just messed around with different hooks til I got the gauge right. It seems to have come out ok

 

Who taught you to crochet?

When I was a kid my mom taught me a little - chain and sc, but I didn't stick with it. Maybe three years or so ago I decided I wanted to learn, so I bought some books and hooks and yarn and taught myself how with some long-distance phone advice from my mom. (Everything went find after I figured out that the reason my practice square was so dense and was taking so long to get anywhere was that I was making slip stitches, not sc )

 

What kind of crochet would you like to try?

Well, a few weeks ago I would've said thread, but now I've started experimenting with that. I think the next thing I want to learn is tunisian crochet (is that the right name for that?)

same with me!! My mom taught me the chain when i was younger and i never got farther than that. Then when I got laid off about 4 or 5 years ago, i wanted a hobby so I wouldn't go crazy. So I started teaching myself to crochet again. When I would hit a bump or had a question I'd call mom.

Where do you keep your WIPs? Some are downstairs in the studio, some are in my bedroom by my bed in a shopping bag.

the biggest thing i ever crocheted was the first afghan i ever made - one of those 'wavy' (sc, hdc, dc, trc, dc, hdc, sc) things that had a color change every other row. it came out awfully. but i didn't know it at the time. now i wish i could find the person i gave it to and trade it for a better made one.

my wips are in sterlite baskets with the yarn, and pattern on a clipboard, or in whatever tote bag is hanging out with me. THANKS again to my secret pal for the GREAT BAG!!!!!

Biggest thing was a huge afghan for a wedding gift; smallest is/was a tiny set of baby ducklings to go with larger ducks for a friend who had twins. I love making ducks!

Well, they used to live on my favorite crochet chair, but it just literally fell apart and we have to get a new one! Between that and with the new kitty in the house, they are now in my bedroom on the bench at the bottom of the bed.

I think in the 3+ years I've been crocheting, I've made myself one hat and a duck. But it's more fun to give than to get!
