What do you have to have by your side while you crochet?

Recommended Posts

A pair of snippers (for cutting yarn). My constant cat companion Cleo. Sometimes Bubba. Rarely Jasmine. Bottle of water or can of soda or Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino (depending on the day of week and time!).

My bag which holds my pattern books, yarns I need, hooks of various sizes, tapestry needles, scissors, post-it-notes, pencil, my newbie book to look up how to do stitches that my patterns call for, piece of wax paper, and a towel to wipe my hands on if they start sweating. I also keep my remote control handy and telephone. My dogs, Sparky and Rocky are always by my side and at my feet. Rocky especially likes to play with the yarn, if it wasn't so cute and funny, it would be really annoying hehe. Oh, and a cold glass of water or juice or a can of Sprite.

Pretty much the same as everyone else.

My hooks, scissors, a measuring tape, my tapestry needle, the pattern book, the phone, and a drink. I usually crochet on the couch and my bf gets mad at me cuz i take up too much space!!! :)

that's a great idea about keeping a notebook with your FO's in it. I never thought of that!!!!

Well, let's see, I'll start with the computer desk since that's where I am now :D

Cup full of hooks, pens, pencils and a pair of scissors. Post-it pads. scrunchie for when I get hot, small clip to keep my bangs out of my eyes. A basket on the floor to hold yarn and the project when I'm not actively working on it. Patterns. My coffee, or soda in the evening. A small bowl/dish to hold my rings, clips and other tiny things so the cats don't knock them off to play with. Oh, yeah, and my quality checker... aka my cat Tux lol.

At the sofa, much the same things. Whatever project or three I'm working on, hooks, tape measure, nail file and clippers. My drink. Pencil and binder of patterns, which also holds blank paper. two baskets full of yarn. a cat or two, just hoping I'll let them play with that tempting string, remote for the dvd/cd player, scrunchie and clip, a bread tie that I use as a stitch marker, a couple of cat toys to toss to distract them from the yarn.... and I think that's it.

I apparently require a large orange tabby cat to crochet, or at least, he THINKS I require him. Quite frankly, I think I go much faster when I don't have to remove the yarn from his mouth every time I need some slack.

I have a case that has my scissors, needles, stitch markers and some other random things in it, and then I also have the beautiful crochet hook case that I bought off of Ebay a couple of weeks ago. All of this goes into a larger sweater storage box that I got from The Container Store that houses the yarn I'm using for whatever project I'm currently working on.

My crochet project bag is also my knitting bag. I have a tape measure, a hook case, a small tin with fold up scissors, safety pins and yarn needles, some pen and paper, a calculator, and a knitting needle gauge that is also a ruler for measuring tension (gauge).

I like to have anything I might need around me so I don't have to get up and go searching. I keep my hook container (originally a container of mini-Doritos or 3D Doritos or something - fits all my hooks except my Q hook, my yarn needles, needle threaders, little ruler, folding scissors, and assorted other stuff) with me, either post-its or a click-type counter to keep track of rows or chains or whatever, usually a binder full of patterns so I don't have to take out the one I'm working on and risk losing it or having it crumpled or anything, and my lap desk if I'm working on the bed, which I do a lot.

Since i do most of my crochet at work, i have a "crochet bag" with my current project(s), the yarn i need to do the project, a travel toothbrush holder, with the 3 hooks i have and a pair of folding sissors and a few safty pins (stitch/row counters) and tapestry needles for finishing off in it, along with my lunch, box knife (saftey utility razor blade), markers and name badge for work. I used the box knife for sissors until dh bought me a small pair to keep in my bag LOL...currently i'm searching for a better bag, i've outgrown this one, and I want one with pockets.....i've been eyeballing one at work thats a "dancer's" bag (a pretty gym bag with pockets)<img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/lildevil.gif" /> Its probally going on layaway to be purchased after Christmas

Well, I like to keep a *wallet* like thing with me when I crochet. It has in it: extra hooks, row counter, stitch markers, scissors, needles, nail file, the pattern.

Also, I like to have by my side is a glass of water, the phone, a blanket (in case I get cold), and the television remote.

Edited to add: Lotion. Lately lotion has been a must! My hands are so dry they snag on the yarn :irked .

hmm... My stuff is always spread all over the house in different rooms but I mostly do my work at the computer desk and in my recliner in the livingroom. I usually have a tray table with my hook case that houses my hooks, measuring tape, stitch markers, scissors, tapestry needles & knitting gauge. I also have the yarn for the current project plus some scrap yarn in a round laundry basket, a drink, and both phones. If it's cold I use the quilted down throw mom got me for Christmas. Oh and unless she's hungry, my kitty Miss Texas, Tex for short.

I need to add the fingernail file and lotion to my stuff, thanks for the tips!!

I always have my little crochet case (the top holds my hooks, needles, and a pair of small scissors), my grooming case (it has tweezers, lotion, nail clippers and files) and a cup of coffee! The yarn for my project sits on the back of the couch and it's the perfect height to work with while on the computer.

all the stuff you all said...hook, pattern, project, scissors, needle, drink, remote, blanket and this is the one thing i noticed no one else has- a couch pillow to sit in my lap to rest my arms and project on. no one else does this? if i dont have somehting there (the dog works too, lol) i hunch my back over and then it hurts later.

I typically have my pattern (if using one) my scissors, various hooks, needles, scraps of yarn... a dog laying on the floor next to my feet and a huge siamese tom cat which thinks he is "helping" when he helps me by catching the yarn that is trying to run away from the roll :blush

Do you know how hard it is to crochet with wet yarn? :loco

Mine would definately be a good pair of scissors and a pencil and paper. I want to hash mark (not on my pattern) off when I have to do multiple rounds.

usually a drink (tea, coffee, dietcoke), a hook case that a (not on crochetville) crochetfriend made me and that's it.
