What do you have to have by your side while you crochet?

One splintery 2x4 (to hit anyone who bothers me)

Two servants dedicated to rubbing my feet (one servant per foot)

Eight gallons of beverage of choice

One string quartet or pianist, depending on my mood

One servant dedicated to keeping the yarn ball from rolling

If I want to feel pampered, the foot-rubbers also give me a pedicure.

Scissors, pattern, TV remotes, something to drink...and I'm usually good to go. My yarn needles are usually within reach, but I don't weave in my ends until I'm all done, so if I'm working on a big project I don't need them right by my side.

Well... a bag of yarn, needles, scissors, my hooks, the pattern, stitch markers, row/stitch counter, pencil and eraser, a bottle of sparkling mineral water, the remote for my TV (when working while watching TV), my mobile phone (at least some of the time)... that's about it.

Sometimes I have a book at hand, too, if I want to do something else besides crocheting and watching TV.

I have a dish that holds sissors, tape measure, and a pencil. However, a couple of years ago I bought an old foot stool and redid the outside of it. The inside has compartment trays and the lid has elastic pouches. That is where I keep all my crocheting paraphanilia... ribbon, snaps, embroidery thread, stapler for my patterns that I print... everything a crocheter could possibly want!

Yep I have a small plastic pencil type case with a yarn needle, craft scissors and all of my hooks. Also, a cup of coffee is a must and something to keep my cat occupied and not playing with my yarn.

I usually have a little case with a needle to weave in ends, snipping scissors, and two or three steel hooks I always use. I don't usually make projects where I need stitch markers or things like that.

It varies but I always have or wear my ugly gray crocheted hat. It found me by way of inheritance. ( Great Aunt passed away in nursing home and it was with her things-she did'nt crochet-it was a mystery) Its full of crochet "vibes".

I use all of the above, but I also keep safety pins around. They are good

to mark the right side of your work or the beginning of the next row when you

are working in the round. I also use them when I need to sew some pieces

together. They really come in handy!! I also have this clicker plastic thing which keeps track of the row count. It's easier than writing them down.

My plastic bag of "goodies"...safety pins, stitch markers and protectors, scissors, and pencil and note paper in case something comes to mind that I need to remember so I don't have to get up from crocheting and do it now!

No matter what I have it's sure to be the wrong size/color/one and the one I want is across the room, which means dislodging the dog on my lap, walking across the room only to find yarn wound around my ankle, and I've frogged half the thing.

As for me... I NEED the pattern of course!, safety pins (my version of stitch markers! ha), A tape measure, scissors, my coffee can to have my yarn/thread in, and yarn needles to weave in ends. Also, the phone so I don't have to stop crocheting and get up to answer it... and the remote if hubby's not next to me to change channels. :hook:cheer:clap

I'm a bit of a minimalist too. I usually have beside me the pattern (if I'm using one), scissors and a needle for the ends (along with my hook and yarn). Also I sometimes have something to drink beside me - coffee in the morning and water or diet something in the afternoon or evening.

What do you have to have by your side while you crochet?

Extra hooks?

Stitch markers?

Tape measure to check guage?

Scissors?

Those are the ones that come readily to mind, but is there anything else gadget-wise that is a must while you're working a pattern?

I'm just curious to see what kind of responses this will get! <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/scratchchin.gif" />

(note: edited by yarntomato to add complete question to subject line :) )

BAGS OF YARN, PATTERN BOOKS, HOOKS, SCISSORS, YARN NEEDLES, MEASURING TAPE, MORE HOOKS, TELEPHONE, REMOTE CONTROL, DIET COKE, A COUPLE OF COOKIES, AN AFGHAN FOR MY LAP...and please don't talk because I'm counting. OH, DID I MENTION MORE CROCHET HOOKS? :D:hook

I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS....:angry HEHE

Depends on what I'm making and the time of day. Today I was sitting right here, son on my right doing school work. On my right was my bag of yarn, on the desk were scizzors, tape measure, and, of course, a diet coke. Oh, and a pencil holder half full of pencils, the other of the hooks of the projects I've been working on.

This evening I started the rr. So I was on the loveseat, diet coke on the stand to my right with the scizzors, at my feet on the left a bag of yarn, on the seat to my left the 2 skeins currently used, and to the left of them, Caesar the cat. :lol
