Skinny vs Wide???

Jayashiangel

Question

Which is better in a basic scarf?

Skinny (6-8 inches wide)

VS.

Wider (8 inches or more)

I'm making keyhole design with a backloop stitch design & using basic whatever yarn is in my stash acrylic area...with a N/ 10.0 hook....

Thanks for all your opinions in advance....

I like the skinny scarf, but I am sure most will like the wide.  I do not like a thick scarf around my neck.

SKINNY

I prefer skinny scarves.  With an N hook, I assume you are using bulky yarns? If you are using the N with worsted weight it would be more open and you might need a wider scarf for more warmth.

I'm finding a lot of different temperature variations in winter in Arizona, example comparing Flagstaff to Phoenix to Tucson .  And whether you need it outside at night, I'm seeing like 30°F differences in day/night winter temps, and nighttime temps in the 40s F..

I'd probably choose the wider (deeper in the chin to neckline direction) scarf for a keyhole scarf, because it is short (in length) and (usually) just crosses over once just enough to thread 1 end thru the keyhole, not wrapped around your neck multiple times like a muffler style scarf can be if more vertical coverage is needed.  Depending on the design, you might be able to fold the top over, sort of like a collar, if you need less height coverage; but if it is too narrow/shallow, you won't be able to do that.

Sorry you got 2 different answers (from opposite ends of the country) with 2 different points of view; something to chew on I guess.  Edit, oops, 3 answers, I wasn't considering the openness of the fabric, hmm..
