Christmas Ornament

jstaff

Question

Hi all!

I found a very nice ornament pattern that I have used many times in the past that I fit on clear ornament balls I buy. Would there be a way to modify it so I can include one letter in the pattern (V) for the ornament? I looked online for ornaments with letters and couldn't find anything. I know people make graphs somehow and they fit but I have no idea how to fit it for an ornament.

Here is the pattern I have used:

Thank you for any help! This is a Christmas gift idea that popped in my head late last night!

It's a neat idea!

This is in moss stitch (SC, Ch1), which is lacy, but you really need a solid fabric to make lettering that is going to be legible; I think converting your pattern to straight SC would be necessary to read the V.  (just sub SCs for the chains)

Edit, I found a chart that is only 5 pixels high that you could use; actually I overlooked that you said your letter was "V" so would be easy to graph without the chart, but here it is if you are interested:

The way to go about this is look at the total number of rounds in your ornament, and figure out the mid-line of those rows.  The midline of the graph above is the third row of each letter (example for the A, the mid line is the horizontal cross line).

Personally, I'd make a swatch worked back and forth of just the letter first, in case you think the letter should be bigger--you can visualize how it will look on the ornament without making the whole ornament and ripping if you want to change it.

Ok thank you so much! I will try a swatch first and see how it looks! Hopefully it comes out looking good!
