A question about washing a felted item?

I recently made a kitty bed and felted it. Well..... they had to put the poor cat down (she was 16 years old, and had arthiritis really bad, her hip bone was disintegrated... still so sad, though.) Anyway, I gave the kitty bed to her for her cat, now she is giving it back to me. I was wondering if it is possible to wash a felted item or would it shrink more? I could give it to my dad for his cats, but I want to wash the other cats smell off of it first....

wash it in cold water .. and lay it flat to dry
