Foundation Double Crochet

Is there a way to make a standing double crochet at the beginning of a foundation double crochet instead of starting the foundation double crochet with three chains?

I can't imagine how, you don't have anything to stand it on.

You could try a foundation SC, chain 1 or 2 (depending on how tall your DCs are), that might look better/more substantial to you.

If the 3 chains are 'too loopy', try making 2 chains?  This would depend on whether you make lofty or short stitches, I make short stitches so might work better for me, but I prefer a foundation chain and I only use foundation stitches when forced to for shaping.

In a foundation dc you have no row to start. 🙂
