Help me figure out an order for my squares!!

i have started this pattern. I have 6 different squares....purple, pink, red....purple, red, pink....pink, red purple...pink, purple, red....red, pink, purple and red, purple, pink

For me the best way is to find a place where you can lay the squares out and then experiment with moving them around until you find a layout that you like. That often includes leaving it for a day or two and coming back to see what you think now.

^ Perfect answer, and the voice of experience.  I do the same thing, although usually with doily edgings (and in my head) not blanket squares, but I'll put something down and think about it for a day or 2 before I hit on a solution that appeals to me.

I personally wouldn't choose 'random', but probably wouldn't choose stripes in columns or rows, either.  I'd probably choose something like diagonal stripes or center-out diamond outlines formed by the same pattern, but that might not make the number of each square come out the same.
