Measuring tape

To who ever could help me with this I have to measure the foundation chain to the paragraph in Brackets 

[Crochet a 6" Chain. Now only measure the middle portion of the chain with a distance of 4" and tell me how many chains are in that 4" section. I don’t know where to put my measuring tape if anybody could help me I will take pictures]

I could be wrong, but I take the knot you start the chair with and put that behind the begining of the tape and measure from there.  In the pattern is there a gage?  That should tell you how many sc's to an inch or 4 inches or what the gage is.

I am sure someone will come in that is better at this then me.

Well if you made your foundation chain 6 inches long lay it out straight beside your tape measure.  I would put a stitch marker in chain at one inch mark and another at the 5 inch mark and then count chains between the markers and add in two with the markers.
