Help crocheting a doll

I am crocheting a doll and the pattern calls for using wire to help her stand but I don’t know what kind to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is a little child ever going to be able to get their hands on this?  If so I'd probably use plastic canvas instead of wire, you can cut it into strips and 'sew' strips strips together for strength--assuming this isn't a really skinny-limbed doll.

I've used pipe cleaners.  It depends on the weight.
